Best Cabinets

Hello,
Jeff here. Right now I am playing with a Peavey Mega Bass head @ 500 watts with a 18" cabinet. Obviously good punch for slapping, but no high end. I play a mix of finger style and slapping. I was thinking about getting a 2x10 or 4x10 to get some high end. Any suggestions? I want at least of 400w power handling, and to stay around $300-$400.

Look into Ernie Ball cabs. They're not really easy to find but they're amazing cabs and they're not too expensive. I've got 2 of the 210s and I love them.

I'm a big fan of the eden stuff, I would recommend giving them a try...xlt's have a mid bump, while the xst series has a lower freq. response...

Suprised you didn't push him towards those GK's you've been trying to offload.

BUT (can't believe im going to be the first advocate here)

I just picked up a Markbass Traveler 102P (2x10)
It is light, easy to carry, and this baby Rocks! nice punch, great bass ...
Can't say enough
I'm seriously thinking of replacing my SWRs with Markbass 4x10 and 1x15

plus they look cool

MarkBass stuff is more than that, though maybe you could find a used one for sale... but I'm betting it will be rare finds at the moment

How much for the mark bass 2x10? I could bring my wife some flowers tonight I tried to check out prices, but could'nt find a retailer... I was looking at the GK backline (for the price), but it sounds like a bad choice from what I've been reading. I looking at SWR, Mesa and Mark Bass now.... Thanks for all your input guys

Eden D210XLT. You would have to go used, but Eden makes great cabs. I have a D210XST w/ a D212XLT...a great combination. But since you will be adding to a 1x18, you don't need the low end of the xst. The XLT will add more highs with a bump at the mids. Since they have been around for a while, it shouldn't take much to get a nice one in your price range.

check out eden 1x12s and 2x12sbut sum folks around here may have sum recommendations for sum Mark Bass cabs I'm Big on 12s more than 10s as addons to large cones for all round purposes

Update

Thanks for all your input. After doing some research, I wound up with a used Warwick 4x10. I was hoping for a 2x10 setup for practice, but after playing a SWR, I realized that keeping up with a loud drummer it might be too much for a smaller cab to handle.
The Warwick sound is really good, especially for the price of $299. The only problem is if I roll on the tweeter with the attenuator, I get some noticible hiss. The cab sounds good with the tweeter at 5% or so. I am going to get a better instrument cable and see if it helps. Thanks for all your input! -jeff

I was hoping for a 2x10 setup for practice, but after playing a SWR, I realized that keeping up with a loud drummer it might be too much for a smaller cab to handle.

The SWR Goliath Jr 2x10 is rated at 350 watts, so you can throw 700 watts at is safely. I've played many gigs with just a 2x10, defeating numerous drummers, guitarists and keyboard players in the process. The key is to have enough headroom in the amp department.

The only problem is if I roll on the tweeter with the attenuator, I get some noticible hiss. The cab sounds good with the tweeter at 5% or so. I am going to get a better instrument cable and see if it helps.

Tweeter in a bass cab = hiss + 2lbs of unnecessary weight
