Trem post/Knife Edges

Hi Guys do you oil your trem posts/knife edge joint?
Also as i have a piezo bridge do i have to be careful if i do (ie will it wreck anything to do with the electrics if it gets on them?)
if you do what do you use? WD40 3 in 1?

Hey David,

Yes, I lube the trem posts on my trem guitars. There is a product called Big Bends Nut Sauce that works really well. I also use a very, very small amount at each of the nuts slots as well. Although, some guys use a graphite? pencil in between the nut slots.

Might I ask why? Does your trem squeek or anything? I've never needed to oil the posts of any of my trem guitars.

nope no squeaking, i just have a habit of wearing out hardware, so i was thinking of prevention rather than cure

Do mean getting it on the saddle by accident. If so I'd just cover the bridge and surrounding area with a towel. The nut sauce comes with an applicator, so getting it in the right area shouldn't be a problem.

I like a little bit of Carmex (a waxy lip balm) on the trem posts. I put it on with a toothpick. You only need a little bit of it, and it works really well.

I've never put any lube where the string meets the saddle. I've never found any need to. Putting it in the nut grooves and trem posts is all I've ever needed to do.

I had a squeak on my Piezo equipped AL which emanated from the trem posts. I used WD40 with the plastic "straw" that comes with the can. I used it VERY sparingly and the squeak disappeared.
I haven't put any on more there - but will do, if the squeak comes back.

I'll give you ALL a pro tip go to the hardware store and ask for a "precision oiler" it's made by general hardware (and others too)it's a EASY CLEAN way to lube spacific areas without getting it all over it's like the size of a pen and you press the top button to release a drip at a time,I personally use slick 50 oil it's synthetic don't smell or stain and stays put where it is applied!i use it on my posts saddles and nut~ on non locking trems !A tip a FAMOUS roadie showed me!Works for yngwie and vai!
works great and they cost under $5!!!
