Hello all,
I got a 4 string stingray HH about a month ago and love it! It has about 40 hours of play on it and the string are starting to dull. I love the crisp sound of new strings and am thinking about putting new ones on. Any suggestions for cleaning the old ones? I have tried boiling strings in the past with no luck. Any brand of strings that keep the crisp sound longer? Any compresser pedal that helps with the crisp-ness? I don't have the best amp setup, but I loved the sound untill the last few times playing it. I may just be picky :)

Try out the Super Slinkys ( Pink Package ) , I also like the Hybrid Slinkys ( Orange Package ) both are great strings and my favorites!

I think my style is pretty hard on strings... I slap alot and play lots of chords. How often do you guys replace strings?

Every six months, but I prefer strings that have broken in a bit and stabilized. The first week or two they're way too zingy for my ear. After six months they're getting too dull.

Those who prefer old-school thump often don't change strings for a long, long time. Duck Dunn (remember the Blues Brothers?) supposedly said, when a string broke on him after being in service for quite a number of years, "Darn...it was just getting broken in....."

I've been known to run with strings until they pull apart.

Just switched out strings on my purple SR5.
The originals, been on there for 7 years.
I must say, the bass does sound alive. Hybrid pack and a 130.
