I have honestly very much disliked the Dimarzio D Sonic ever since the day I got my JP. After debating on what to do about it I finally had it taken out a slapped a Dimarzio Evolution into it. I've got one in my JEM and love how it sounds. I think my JP is 10x better now with the Evo. The D Sonic just seemed very muddy and bassy to me at lower volumes. I know tons of people love them, but it wasn't for me.

Yeah you've got that older Dimarzio right?

Sub...I love my Vetta II. I've been using Line 6 amps for about 10 years now. I got an Ax2 212 when they first came out and I upgraded to the Vetta II almost 2 years ago.

What he means is keep the stock pickup, because if you sell the guitar, buyers would probably want to have the D-Sonic. I know I would.

I would want the guitar in stock configuration. To me, your guitar is now worth less than if you had the D-Sonic in it. If you have the Evolution in it, I'd want to buy the guitar with the original pickup included in the deal. To me, the way I would decide what I'm paying for your guitar (if you decide to try to sell it to me) is this.

Value of used JP of a certain age and finish - penalties for wear and tear - cost of reinstalling the D-Sonic = what I would pay for your guitar. By that calculus, your Evolution pickup is worth nothing to me as a potential buyer.

It wouldn't matter to me that you spent money to put in what you believe is a better pickup. I'm not going to compensate you for that. A lot of buyers generally think this way. That's just how the used-guitar market works; people want to buy guitars in their stock configuration.

That being said, if you like the Evo, great. I'm not saying it's not a great pickup. The combination could be grand, and you should be happy with your guitar. It's just that a lot of buyers will want the D-Sonic. So, it makes sense for you to keep the original pickup if you ever want to sell the guitar.

I agree, keep the original pickup for sure.

But I disagree with a lot of the collectors on this forum. When I buy a guitar and play one I own, I really don't want to think about the resale value. It's my guitar, I'll beat the snot out of it if I want! I'll worry about resale value when I sell it.

Basically I want to enjoy what I have and not worry so much about selling it.

You should do whatever you want with the guitar. You bought it. You worked for it. Enjoy it the way you want to enjoy it. That's fine.

The point is that if there is the option to keep the pickup, it ought to be kept just in case you want to sell the guitar to someone. They may want it in a stock configuration. If one keeps the original pickup, one can offer to replace it if that's what a buyer wants. Or, you can sell the guitar with the pickup, and the buyer can replace it, if that is what he/she wants to do.

My point is something like this. Don't burn any bridges.

see the sticky at the top of the page but tbh I agree with DT1607 even if you never ever ever use it again,installing again if you ever sell the JP would mean you would get a better resale assuming the shop/buyer knows what they are buying

I've yet to try a MMJP with a D-Sonic in it... I originally didn't like the stock SS pickup, but now, I think I'm set. It sounds amazing!

Whatever works for you, man. Enjoy it! :)

PS. I agree with keeping the D-Sonic. Resale reasoning.:cool:

I don't see myself selling this guitar anytime soon. I am not going to keep a pickup that I'm not going to use just incase I decide to sell it someday and think that I will only be able to sell it is if it has the D Sonic in it. I think that is just silly. If I really wanted to, I could just buy another one if I ever decided to sell the guitar, which I'm not gonna do.

I see your point, but if there was someone that really wanted to white JP like mine I'm sure they wouldn't pass it up just because of a different dimarzio pickup in the bridge when all they would have to do is get one and put it in there and then potentially sell the pickup that is in the guitar (evo) or just keep it. Its not like these D Sonics are very rare or anything.

Its not like I had the fretboard scalloped, changed the nut, or installed a floyd or something that would definately change the guitar. Its just a pickup.

Lew, it looks like the sticky is only for Musicman products so I'm guessing it will get deleted.
