Has anyone read "Music Man: 1978 to 1982 (And Then Some!): The Other Side of the Story"? Does it deal with basses or just amps? Is it a good read?

Sorry for the OT post, but there's no forum for these kinds of things. Maybe the web gurus at EBMM should add one. ;)

Written by Frank W.M. Green. Description is as follows:

"Legendary for their construction and longevity, Music Man amps have earned the trust and respect of musicians worldwide. The company was the brainchild of industry vets Leo Fender, Forrest White, and Tom Walker. This book examines the latter - the company's "genius chief pilot/navigator" - particularly during the productive epoch from 1978 to 1982."

Yeah The Author is a guy who worked there and a nice man. Before he went to work for music man he had a store in an old movie theatre in Sierra Madre California....he closed the store to go to work for Music Man.....I used to call on him when I was a road rep at the ripe old age of 17...See I didnt fry too many cells...It is funny that I can remember calling on his little store though

I bought the book and am very happy it is showing a side of Tommy Walker.....

Ordering one as we speak.

That whole Leo era of Music Man is a bit of a mystery to most of us.

It's good to have you around to answer the questions. Speaking of which, what sort of relationship did your dad have with Leo? (If you don't mind me asking.)

my dad was an endorsee of leos and a dealer and leo sort of put him into the zstring biz by his refusal to offer lighter guage strings....they werent close but there was alot of respect. Don Randall and Tommy Walker were very close...Especially Tommy as he was the godfather to all of the ball kids. He and his wife Pat never had kids and I think every night hey prayed for my parents safety!

Ive said it many times Tommy Walker was off the charts in all ways in my book...forrest white took shots at him in his book and that was too bad.
