Opinons needed on a Silh...

Hi guys, need help here.

I'm deciding between 2 specs for the Silhouette that I'm totally gassing for...

For sure I want one that comes with a Piezo, and the standard trem. I've never seen a Silh with a piezo control. Anyone has one? Pics? Can I see the layout? Where's the toggle and the extra knob?

But the main clincher, is the fretboard wood. I'm thinking of:

Is there a considerable difference in tone for the woods? And why is the silhouette in basswood? I wish it were alder... but anyways... I still want one!!!

So which should I get???

It's Alder? Hmm... that's good news indeed. For some reason, I've always thought it was basswood...

The hesitation for the RW, is because I already have a JP6. I thought of getting the Maple first, to get a different sound/feel, then get the RW later. But if there's not much of a diff, then I might as well go straight for the RW.

Still want to see the Piezo though. I'm wondering if there's a toggle switch in the same layout as the JP6...

I'm sort of a traditionalist... heh. I like white, black and sunbursts... The only red I'd go for, would be a 60s Fiesta Red...

If I could only find one in Black sparkle maple with white pickguard... I wouldn't have to think so hard...

Typically, the maple fingerboard is going to be a little brighter with a sharper attack....the rosewood should warm it up a bit, but it really comes down to personal preference.
If you're getting a trem, they tend to be a little brighte, in my opinion, so maybe the rosewood would help to balance things out....if you're going for hardtail, maybe go with the maple.
Just my 2 cents....it's a subtle difference, and usually with a few small EQ tweaks on your amp, you can acheive the same tones out of either guitar.

I don't get it... So there's no switch? When the mono is plugged in, the piezo is already on and I have to blend the volumes using the knobs??

I go back and forth mysely but I do feel that you can achieve similiar tone with both, the maple will be brighter with more attack, I like the feel of rosewood under my fingers though - Id say go with rosewood -

I like bright!!! the brighter the better... Especially with humbuckers. I find that hums on a bolt on (like my JP6) always tend to be a bit dark.

well, if you like bright, stay with the maple fingerboard....It's a hard wood and great for percussive bright playing...humbuckers are typically going to be darker sounding than single coils....what kind of magnets are used in the silo humbuckers?
i think the buckers in my axis are a nice balance of being bright, and yet still fat.
I swapped out a dark/muddy bucker on one of my other guitars for a JB model seymour duncan, and it helped a lot...the harmonics jumped out and the pick attack was a lot more percussive.
I hope this helps....keep in mind that tone is SO subjective, and this is only my opinion. I have beem playing guitar for about 25 years and have a LOT of experience tryig out pickups....but I am brand new to EBMMs.

The Silos are PAF pros. I tried using these in the JP6. Didn't work as well as I hoped. I had to use a Steve's Special to get the tone I wanted... I also have a JB and a 59 in a Les Paul copy. The maple top, short scale and angled neck make quite a difference, so it's hard to make an objective judgement there. But I preferred the 59 over the JB. I'll be swapping the PAF Pros to PAF Joes and Steve Specials on the Silo anyways...

Since my JP6 can fulfill the RW tones, I can focus on a nice maple Silo... heh.

I've played guitars for almost 20 years, and yes, I'm new to EBMM too... heheh...

I like rosewood for the silo because it warms it up a little, but I sure do love the way maple looks...

I like it too....for some reason, I think the maple plays better (probably totally psychological)

Probably the one you'll get is the one you find first (heh heh)

I like the tone of rosewood and the feel of maple. Given the choice between my two (one of each), it's rosewood, hands down. But I like smoky tones over bright, and of course there's places for each. It's like comparing a nice merlot to a cold beer.

wow... that's really nice!!! I like the look, but it looks a bit feminine for my tastes (think of a really sexy bare skinned female arm with a nice lace glove on the hand...)

I think I'll stick with the natural headstock... But I want the piezo... No one seems to be able to answer my piezo question?
