Any suggestions, seems many use Celestion vintage 30. Looking for 50 watts or greater. This is for a combo amp.

Thanks.

V 30's are great, I have them in my cabs, if your looking to keep the price down eminence makes some decent speakers that are cheap like a V12 but they might ahve some newer speakers, you might try one v30 and one v12 if your combe is a 212, I have that in a marshall 212 and its my favorite cab -

Thanks for the info on the scumbacks, I will call them Monday and talk to them. At this moment and based on my research, I think the vintage 30 is worth trying. I have used tone tubbys in the past, but dont think they are the best fit for this application, but are great speakes.
Thanks all.

I just received my 2x12 cab from Geezer Sound Co. I had it loaded with 2 16 ohm Celestion Green Backs. I'm hoping when I run my Frenzel 25/50 Twin-Plexi I can get some nice cone/speaker distortion.

are you replacing the speaker in your Switchblade?

I am thinking about it. I cant leave anything alone. I am always changing tubes, speakers just because I like to tinker with things. Same with my guitars, I am always doing something to them. The Switchblade is still my all time favorite amp and it sounds great. I just wonder if it could sound better with an upgraded speaker?

I had a Celestion Vintage 30 in my 50W H&K Dutone combo and it would fart and flubber at higher volume levels.

I replaced it with an Eminence Legend 121. The low-end response is a lot better with this speaker and that's important in they typically boxy-sounding 1x12 combo platform.

BTW, I believe all Eminence speakers are made in the USA. I've heard that Celestion V30's are made in China these days. For whatever that's worth to you...

Thanks for the info, my amp is also an H&K, but a switchblade. I will look at the 121 as well.

I would go with 2 Celestion Vintage 30s. I had a Orange PPC212 cab with them sounded really good.:)

I used them with the Orange Tiny Terror. They sounded really good. The only reason I let the cab go is I want to get some speaker/cone distortion for a more classic rock/blues thing I've been toying around with for the past few weeks.

V30's are cool if you like midrange push and highs, but imo they aren't what I'd call hi-gain or crunchy necessarily. Not a lot of bottom end. They're a forgiving speaker, though, easy to mic and mix.

I'm not wild about Scumbacks.

Be careful of alnico if you plan on cranking it up loud, as they tend to compress too much to cut through at louder volumes. This goes for the Em. Red Fang as well.

My favorite is the 75 watt Em. Wizard, a spin off of the Celestion H30, but imo, a whole lot nicer sounding. They can thump as well as sing. Great sustain, beefy bottom end and an overall nice balance.

The Em. Legend GB12 is also nice, if you like Greenbacks, but they don't sustain anything like the Wizard.
