GC is certainly not perfect, but in another thread about local dealers, I had to admit that of the local dealers we have here in Southeastern Michigan, GC is actually better than a number of independent dealers.

In my area, I've found that some GCs are better than others. It all depends on the particular personnel working at a particular store, I guess.

True.

For me, GC is the first place I look for something - for all of the reasons BP gave above (but mostly price, I am a cheap bastard  )

My friend in Los Angles has been to 5 Cuitar Centers looking for a Silo and has not found one yet. I think he's going to the smaller dealers now.
I finally talked him into MM guitars and now the poor guy can't find one to try out LOL.

We will be shipping some Silo Specials to GC in the beginning of November. I believe it takes a few weeks to get them in stores after they hit the DC. So if you friend is interested this is probably the quickest way to get one.

Here are the specs:

Build Code = 530-02-10-05

Description = Silhouette Special, Hardtail, HSS, White, Maple, White Pearl PG

I love when you can get the one year-same as cash deals at GC. I hate when the indie store people watch over me while I'm trying something out. It's annoying.

Ooh! I hope one of those makes its way to my preferred GC.

GC is just like any other large retailer, sometimes you have a store that has a great manager and sometimes there could be some improvements. I buy a lot of stuff at GC because their prices are really hard to beat. I've never understood the desire by some to bash them. If you don't like GC, shop somewhere else. There is really no reason to denegrate them just because you don't like their business plan.

I like Guitar Center. I buy all my accessories from them... strings, picks, cables ect... I've been going there for a while and I've never payed sticker price for anything except Monster Cables  Though I would never buy a guitar from them. Those poor guitars get the crap beat out of them.:(

I found it interesting that at my guitar center they "hide" the EBMM's with the JEM's, the les paul customs, and the '57 Strat there (which by the way is tagged at 34,000 dollars!) behind the counter up high on the wall. It's like they don't want you trying them out just because, unless you're really interested.

I think of GC as a huge adult playground. My experiences with them have been mostly positive and the only handful of negative ones involved bad salesmen, but you get that anywhere. Their price match policy makes it hard to pass up buying gear there. I'm extremely excited to know that my local GC will start stocking EBMM guitars. My wife is a little nervous though.:D

That is so true! And they run those specials at all the right times, too. Christmas & Memorial day sale. If it weren't for the great Memorial day sale, the willingness of GC to bargain on price & my wife thinking the over 12 month financing is a good deal financially, I wouldn't have my 20th, and that would make me very very sad. :(

Guys - GC is a great place to shop -you just have to know how to do it properly. Buy in the last few days of the month - learn when the real sales are - take advantage of the interest free financing, GRIND GRIND GRIND ;), etc....

And Larry -

The guitars at GC are in no worse shape than any other retailer (at least you actually get to play the stuff without hassle!). AND, if you find something there you really like but it's worn a little too much for ya - you can still get the same price on a special ordered one. And we all know, if you're going EBMM - no worries there.

It's funny to hear everybody bitch about GC. We don't have them up here, and I have to tell you I'd love to see one around these parts. Somewhere with that kind of selection and the ability to return if you're not satisfied. Whenever I'm in the States (and that's pretty regularly) I find a local GC and just hang out.

Pete is my dealer :) Unless its some super sale sale. I order my balls through him... I'm weird in I like to support the smaller business. I like to think that my sale means something. When you buy something at GC your a sales figure.

+1 On that. I am blown away when I visit a GC when I am in the USA.

No I understand what you mean... I'd just rather give my money to Pete than some national chain... I suppose its personal preference really...

If GC has something I want, and it's in good condition. I have no problem buying it there, especially if I can do one of those great one year-same as cash deals.

If I'm ordering something. I'm going through Pete and Nick.
