Hey guys,

So I am finally gonna start writing and recording again after a long hiatus...

I am loving the sound of this Silhouette Special (HSS) through this Mesa Mark IV. I was never a big fan of single coil stratty sounds until now. It almost seems like playing high gain leads on the single coils makes you have to produce better tone with your fingers than if you were playing through humbuckers... I've always had an easier time playing lazier and still getting a decent sound out of a neck humbucker way up the neck... these single coils are making me work for my tone (and I am loving it)...

Anyway, it's just a short clip of a "chorus" type of idea for a song. Any honest feedback would be much appreciated.

(BTW, all of the guitars are completely dry, recorded with a single SM57, no EQ or anything applied, it is just a rough mix)

I am so loving this Silhouette!

EDIT: I updated the clip, I applied a little EQing and rewrote some of the melody

Thanks, Rob. Love hearing these Silo Special samples through different amps. Sounds good, both tone and your playing.

Very nice! This is exactly the kind of tone that lead me to pick up a Silo Special after discovering EBMM - thanks to my JP6.

That doesn't sound like any Mark IV I've ever played through...you must have some compression and/or an overdrive pedal...am I correct?

Great playing and tones!

It is niiiiice! No?

Seriously - how about sharing your Mark IV settings so the rest of us can give that tone a go?

No sir, there is no compression or overdrive. It's just my Silhouette Special (switched to the neck pickup) directly into the Mark IV and mic'd using an SM57.

The first day I played around with the mic position I put the mic right up on one of the speakers, an inch or 2 from the grill... I tried it facing the center of the cone, angled towards the outer edge of the cone, and everywhere inbetween... I hated the sound that it was producing (too fuzzy and grainy)... But I loved the tone that I was hearing from a couple of feet away from the amp (my head sitting level with the speakers because the amp cabinet is elevated)

So I backed the mic up... about a foot or so away from the amp facing neither speaker directly... It is facing the center of the speaker cabinet...

I EQ'd some extra highs back into the sound on the mixer though, so I guess I may need to tweak the mic position a tiny bit for some more highs

BTW, the only other thing I did to the melody guitar was add a slight bit of reverb, the rhythm guitars are dry with just a tiny bit of EQ to boost the highs

Thanks for all the complements guys, it means a lot.
