Feel free to use that thread title. It comes in handy--Heck, it's even livened up a dead crowd on one occasion by shaming them....I've got a gig tonight that will probably end up the same way, Jack.

But, I get to play some Bongos with a drummer I don't play with very often who is very clever and an entirely different style than the guy I normally play with, so that'll be fun.

And, you know--free BBQ and and a cute girl behind the counter who giggles at our stupid stage banter, so I can't complain.

Oh, and it's also the last gig before I get married next weekend and then spend two weeks in Belgium and Amsterdam. :D

Gigs like that remind us of why we spend so much time worrying about getting "the tone".

As Dr. Ruth used to say, "How can you please your partner..."

Oh, Jack - we've all been there!! We, too, will use that as a night to break out something new or rusty, or just play something totally off the cuff, might as well, no one cares, right? The place I play with Tommy every week has a huge flat screen with sports on right behind us. My personal favorite is when we're in a heart-rending ballad and the folks at the bar break out into wild cheers at the TV halfway through the song. At least the manager sometimes has the decency to turn off the screen behind us on occasion.

We know exactly what you mean with the sports on behind you.

I like 2007 better!

I'll have to stop by the SF GC to see what they have in stock...been out of the loop a bit too long. Though, I've gotta say, the '95 is no slouch.

Back to topic: Did a charity gig last night...people paid $10-20 at the door (depending on the time slot)...and they were most definitely into the music!

Not that the bar suffered.

These are the redeeming gigs.

i kinda like the big screen behind us. i make believe the people are watching me do my solos. sometimes....i'll do a real fun solo....& the crowd starts cheering & clapping !!!!! just because someone just intercepted a pass is not important to me. i still have my dreams.
on a side note......it's really cool playin w/ 3 hot looker chicks in the band. one week i wore pajamas.......& nobody even noticed.

I like it when you actually ask the crowd over the mic if the applause was for you or the sports! :D Might try that one, Jack!
