Gauge 12 strings on a JP6 for Drop C

how many of you have you have the guitar tuned 2 whole tones down with gauge 12? did you need to have the nut filed?

i think im gonna take the JP6 to the shop and make a jump to a thinker sound. i like train of thought better

You'll need a full and complete set up. You'll need your nut filed (ouch), probably extra springs added (good thing Balls come with extra springs), The "long part" of the guitar adjusted for curvature correction (this is going south fast) and the tail end adjusted for proper height and length. A good tech should have you up and running in 30-60 minutes.

If you're lowering every string 2 Steps (4 semi-tones), that's standard C... Drop C is standard D with the low string tuned to C, for slacker power chords )

So you meant Standard C.

i ended up getting 13's because i wouldnt like the sound of such a a thick G string.
and all that to find out i need to make an additional hour an a half trip to get the damn thing filed

as far as tension goes... it's pretty much the same as my current set of 10's. i know this cuzthe big ol 6th string actually fits without filing (a design choice to cater drop tunning string sets?) but thing rest won't. i'm thinking about taking a shot at filing it myself(widen not deepen).

pjc812 handled it, but everything is really simple minus the filing of the nut. be careful!

ok, so here goes. it was a mosnster amount of worrying and just a tiny bit of doing. since the whole set is tuned afourth , i used the old strings as a file. it widened nicely but i'm not sure if the original nut is hight enough (ie big strings vibe wider). right now it's set to C, and although that should feel like less tension, the difference is not too huge. but i'm thinking about just tuning it to B and taking it from there.

The wood, BTW, now resonates like it should and sustain is improved a tad too.
