Well last Friday night, I sat in with some old friends for a benefit gig to raise money for an injured friend. There was a great turnout and alot of money was raised.

The band I sat in with is a classic rock band, I used to play lead guitar for a few years back. A good bunch.
I brought along my vintage sunburst Silo HSH and my hardtail 20th silo with me, along with a Marshall 30 watt tube combo. The 2 other guitarists were playing Gi&sons, with humbuckers thru half stacks. I figured I would start with the Silo HSH to give me some nice single coil sound options to compliment the other guys with their humbuckers.

Sounded ok out front with my combo mic'd thru the PA, but with no sound man, I was kinda getting lost in the stage mix due to the half stacks the other guys were pounding thru. I was starting to think it would have been better if I had brought my Music Man 130 half stack. I decided for the second set, I would break out the 20th Silo. I tweaked the Marshall by backing off the pre-gain a tiny bit and cranking the master volume to 7. (For the tunes we were playing, at higher volumes, I find it's better to play a bit cleaner, with less distortion. You get much more definition that way.)

I have two 20th Silo's, but had never gigged with 'em yet and...
WOW! Even with my little 30 watt combo competing with the half stacks, The 20th anniversary Silhouette cut through the mix like a hot knife thru warm butter. The 20th really had great tone and sustain, and really sang. Nice sweet controllable feedback when needed. Everyone was raving. They wanted to know how I was getting such a great sound. I had a real great time.

Needless to say, grab yourself a 20th anniversary Silhouette if you can! Super sounding guitars.

I do play my 20th quite a bit, it is such an awesome guitar. However, I haven't been able to take it out of the house yet. Well I did take it to the guitar shop to get it re-set (it plays smooth as hell now), but I can't seem to bring it to rehersal. I have a gig next weekend and I am still thinking I'll stick to the Silo Spec for that one.

Great story. Yeah, it really cuts through. Great guitar ... still can't believe what a well kept secret they are. When Poppa says "it's the best guitar we've made" you rush out and buy one ...

Alright, I'll bring it to rehearsal tomorrow. I am anxious to hear it in a more louder environment. However, If I spill beer on it, I am holding you responsible. :D (just kidding of course)
