It is funny how life brings us changes. This has been a year full of them for me. First my little visit to the hospital, then my trip to Mexico, and then my trip out of my home studio. Yes I lost my home studio to my Little One. I live in a 3 bed two bath home. Master bedroom, guest room and STUDIO. My little boy just turned 3 and we dicided, well actually he dicided the it was time for his own room. We needed to keep our guest room because I always have my inlaws coming over, although if we got rid of it maybe that would mean no more visits! Anyway my studio had to go so I had to sell most of my stuff because I have no room in my home.
Last night I went to Jam with a friend of mine. It felt great but, and I never thought I would say this, right now music has taken a back seat to other things especifically MY FAMILY. I still miss playing but I don't think it is time yet.
At one point I even thought of selling my guitar to cover some bills, but thanks to common sense and a Wonederfull Wife, that thought disipated in a hurry.
Anyway sorry for the boring post just wanted to share.
You all have a wonderfull weekend.

Not a boring post at all, you've got your priorities exactly as they should be! When the time is right everything will fall into place...it always does.

Best Wishes

Wow! The changes of life. I went through similar.
Never sell your guitar to pay bills unless it is the absolute last straw!
No matter how much money you have, there will always be bills.
I had sold mine thinking I need the money, I can buy another later.
Well I did.
11 years later!

I hear you.
Thanks all for the responses, I must confess I hesitated to post this thread, but then I remembered where I was posting.

Thanks you all for understanding.

Musicman,

Here, here here!! Excuses, excuses, LOL LOL By the way I enjoyed your post, but you posted for comments, so here's my comment.:)

Whenever issues hit a family it seems to always be the "musical instruments that have to go!! As if they are the culprits that brought on the problem.

Sell a TV, sell that extra car, sell that unused treadmill, sell. . . . well, you get the picture. You even considered selling your MM guitars. Not good my friend.

Nor did you have to give up an entire room to the little one. You still had 2 bedrooms, guest room and two baths for your gear. Yes, for your gear!!!

My master bedroom has two guitar stands in it, one on each side of the bed, in place of night stands. One for my guitar and one for my wife's!! (we have empty rooms to put them in but we don't). We've been married 27 years.

So, in conclusion, our MM guitars don't compete with our family (never did) they just always get the blame. Keep your MM guitars when issues hit the family, they add more to your life than perceived, and will be there long after the issues are gone!!

Yes I know what you mean, and my wife knows it to that is why that thought went away. It is not that I blame them, it is just that when you have bills that need attention and you have all this gear just sitting there it really makes you think about the fact that your familly might need something which these items could provide. But like fogman said never sell your guitars to pay for bills and that is why I am keeping them.
Yes you are right they do bring joy to my life even in the hardest times.

Thank you for your comments.:)

Musicman,

I'm with you bro!! I (like you) was there in my life and sold my gear. I regret it.

Yeah, it's not that we blame the guitars, but the guitars seem to automatically be expendable BEFORE anything else, and FIRST in line!! As if they almost shouldn't be there anyway.

You remind me of myself and my dedication to my wife and kids (you know, that undying love thing!)

I hope things work out for you man, and I'm sure they will!!

Life is demanding and just plain hard work sometimes. Family always comes first, bu playing guitar fulfills an important role to keep one sane!

It is better than turning to other things. Guitar playing has helped me keep my sanity through out the years. When the world seems to insist on makin it hard just pick up your balls and give it a smile.

TNT, you are right when you said find something else to sell. I ended up getting rid of a late model Toyota pickup a few years ago to help our situation. (Am now driving a salvaged 1984 190 D Benz w/ over 300,000 miles and under 100hp) I was able to keep my guitars.

I don't have a studio room either but I still have all of my stuff packed in the closet and under the beds hoping one day I can lay it out like I want. Whenever I do record it's always on the bed/couch/floor and very inconvienient. But oh well, another dream I have to make come true....It's part of what keeps me going.

I'm in the same boat. Bills are piling up. My money is not stretching at all anymore. I may have to put up my little Axis. I hope it won't come to that. If it does I can always find other...:(
