I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I searched and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

What years were SR5's equipped with Alnico pickups and what years were they equipped with Ceramic pickups?

On a related note: If I wanted to get my SR5 sounding as close to my SR4 as possible, what would I have to do?

Thanks!

Your one stop for all sorts MusicMan bass related questions is Rod Trussbroken's website www.musicmanbass.org. I think you may find the answer there in the section "PRE-AMPS AND PUPS".

sorry, couldn't resist....(but quite frankly, that's what I ended up with...) :D

My understandng is that the SR5 changed from Alnico to Ceramic when it changed from 2-coil to 3-coil in 1992.

His site was the first place I looked. He barely talks about anything related to SR5s.

I have two SR4's...but I always play 5 string.

Mid 2003 it seems.

I think 1992 is right - I haven't thought about it in a long time, but "early 90s" is the first thing that occurred to me.

Sneaky!

I wanted to get one...but they are too expensive for me right now! I'd sell my current SR5 HH to get one, but unless one falls into my lap...I don't see that happening right now.

That's what I though too.......until I tried one! I then proceded to sell off my first Stingray, the one I said I'll always keep so that I can pay for it. NO regrets!:D

I´ve done some recordings with my SR5 20th and that thing just sounds too good to be true! There is no heavier bass sound on the planet! :D

I sold two basses to get my 20th SR5.

If I'd known before how addicted to it I would become, I would have sold three if I had to.
