Doesn't the HH mean that it has 2 humbuckers? On MF, it is listed as a Bongo 5HH.

Yes, yes, I got all that. It was this mishmash of letters that still confuses me: "Now I just have to sell some gear and talk my wife into letting me do it."

Icelandic? Urdu? Pashtu? One of those quirky native New Zealand dialects?

Well after doing some research and thinking, I've decided to go with the Bongo 5 HH. Now I just have to sell some gear and talk my wife into letting me do it.

I understand that. Been married 31 years. I could explain but won't here. :)

Trust me, I tried to just going for it and taking the heat later and that was real ugly. Things will be a LOT better if I get approval upfront. Especially since a bass is hard to hide... :)

OT!!
Don´t know why but it seems like it´s easier to hide a mistress than a bass for some married guys. Now I am not married nore do I a have mistresses but much to my own surprice I often hear my great girlfriend say; "Jan. Shouldn´t you buy yourself a new bass again soon"? The thing is that I have around 30 already. She often tell me that she rather see me get more instruments than another girlfriend. She´s the best. Pretty too. I don´t deserve her, that´s for sure.

Can I bump the topic? ;)
I've got simillar doubts abot changing my bass. I'm an owner of a MM Stingray 4, and I'm thinking about changing it (I'm short of money, so I'll change instead of buying a second bass). I was thinking about MMSR5 and Bongo 5, but..
My biggest issues are
1) Music Shops in my neighbourhood have really poor choice of basses (I'd be a miracle if there was even a single OLP bass)
2) I've heard that MMSR built after 2005 have different sound than MMSR built before that date (rumor says about that neodymium magnets in pup's sound different than "normal" magnets)

Can I've opinion from you guys?
Thx a lot

This is the perfect thread that I have been looking for since I drafted up this response about my own problem.

So about a year ago I wanted to take the plunge and get a GOOD bass. Now up until this point I have played an Indonesian Copy P-Bass that I modded to heck so it actually sounds decent, a starter Ibby, and an Epiphone EB-3. None of these basses are really "well made" and held back my potential and skill (Ha, there is a serious lack in both of those departments for me :p). Anyway, I went and played LOTS of basses. I played basses that I could afford to basses that I couldn't afford even if I started hacking off limbs and selling them on the black market. I finally decided I wanted an EBMM and that it was going to be between a Bongo and a Stingray.

Here is where it gets tricky. I feel that a bass should really just be a medium for your personality. If you feel a certain way and play a certain way, your bass should invoke that feeling and reproduce it in all bass-like glory. Now I listen to alot of music like ska, metal, punk, rock, classical, country, bluegrass, jazz, fusion, well you get the idea. The thing is I like to play all of these types of music, and through playing all of those basses I came to the conclusion that I need a Jack-Of-All-Trades. I need a Bongo. (I also notice the humor in the Bongo to Jack reference)

So I went out and purchased a Bongo right? Nope, I ordered an SR4 HH. I love it, but it's not exactly me. Even my own dad asked me why I needed this bass because I can already do the same things on the bass I already owned. Now I didn't explain to him (he is a guitard :D) that G.A.S is pretty painful, but that my current bass just couldn't cut it. It was like trying to play Mozart on a Playskool keyboard. In a sense though he was correct. I really didn't need another 4 string bass, and I really wanted to open up to an extended range. After putting the order down on my bass, I realized I should have waited for a Bongo 6, since it makes more sense (weird isn't it) for me to own.

The moral here is to find your voice through a bass, and that should be the bass you buy.

Ok, I'm going to get off my soapbox and go to sleep. Hope I helped at all.

Jeez. the simple answer is when you are short of money go get the bongo cuz it is the only one that will suffice to keep you from spending when you don't have.

I can't seem to find any used Bongo's out there. I see a few SR5's though. If anyone should see a used Bongo (preferably HH) 5, PM me. Thanks.

After playing a round of golf with Brian, I was under the impression that he was the owner.
Well , maybe I got the wrong impression.....but he claims he can outdrive Bib Poppa.
