AP ran an article today about the Business Software Alliance's latest tactics, and some of the results. Mentions EB as an example of what happens when the BSA's tactics misfire...there's a great BP quote in there.

Read it here.

I don't even think I could remember how to use one if you put it in front of me.
Many young people on this forum probably don't even know what an abacus is, or even know what a telephone with a bell in it sounds like. And on and on and.......

Ah yes, those were the days. Except there weren't any Bongo's around then. Except for the kind Maynard T. Krebs used to play. Dig????

Makes you think about posting serial numbers with for-sale bass ads (watch your for-sale pics as well).

I didn't know that Microsoft used Ernie Ball as an example in advertising.

Makes me even happier to be posting this using Firefox in Ubuntu.

Yes Linux is the way to go. And it will do what you need and want it to do.

I am looking into implementing Ubuntu Server (client/server environment) for the network I manage. The issue I have is dealing with specialized 3rd party software. Using VMware, I am able to run windows for this purpose, but there is still licensing factor.

I used to be against "renting" software through the web browser, but it is the future, and it will take away the authority of the local OS (and thus get Linux moving even faster).

I digress though so anway I thought that the article was inspiring and proves you don't ever have to take up the ____ if you have the determination to not let it happen.

  :D

Being serious now, I´d love to go open source but compability is the key word when running a recording studio like I do. Unfortunately. I used to be a PC guy but I´m on Mac only these last 4 years. And I´ve noticed how much time I save since Mac OS is soo much better than anything that Microsoft has ever made. I used to spend at least 15 hours per week messing about, trying to find out what the heck was wrong since Win95/98 and XP was not ideal to run heavy applications on, with buggy drivers and lots of other problems. Mac OS 9 and OS X is soo much better and I´m indeed a much happier person. Less frustration and stress indeed.

A friend of mine is a member of S.L.U.G., Stockholm Linux User Group. SLUG is a swedish word and it means "cleaver" or "smart". Computer geek humour. :) He has told me that you can run pretty much all PC/Mac programs on Linux and I´ve been thinking about giving it a try. LINUX is without a doubt a very cleaver platform and I would not mind at all to use it. Would be great but I don´t know if I dare to just yet since nooone else in the music studio business uses it. Will have to talk to my friend more. If the programs that I use really are compatible, then why not.

I read about Microsoft and how they treated Ernie Ball back when all this happend. Very upsetting indeed. Not a nice way to treat a customer. I´m not aware about if Microsoft ever did any similar things to companies over here in Europe but I don´t think so. We have different kind of laws over here and one major difference is that it doesn´t cost nearly as much to go to court. I´ve heard about many companies in USA that had to file for bankruptcy during trials even when not guilty just because their opponent had more money and could detain the whole thing until the other part was totally broke since lawyers and other things costs soo much money. That sucks. I totally understand and support the idea to go open source. Smart move that will save lots of money in the long run. Great thing. Thanks mr. Torvalds!
