A friend of mine handed me his 2006 tobacco burst Axis about a month ago to try out. He had hardly played it. You couldn't tell that it had been out of the case. It was love at first strum. We traded dollars for hardware and I am now one of the family!

Before I turn too many screws, I thought I better get some perspective.
My problems began with the fine tuning screw for the B string being nearly bottomed out. I loosened the nut locks, set all of the fine tuners to about center, tuned the guitar and retightened the locks. The B and high E strings twang buzzed badly on all frets including open. I screwed the B and high E strings fine tuners back in and the problem went away.

That got me looking more carefully at the whole setup picture starting with the Floyd. My Floyd sits rocked back a little bit resting on the body. My D-Tuna angles toward the body and might hit the body if the fine tuner were screwed all the way in. The Floyd can be leveled with the body using the tremolo arm and that puts it in a float position with a little less than 1/16” gap between it and the body face. Is this correct for the Axis? If not, how is this corrected. AND... is this where I should start?

I then fretted the low E string @ frets 2 and 12. The string lays basically flat on the fret board. There might be a thousandth between the two if anything. Same with high E.

I am very close to dropping this off in San Louis Obisbo but would prefer to become proficient with this on my own…. Thank you all in advance for any help or advice.

Send off a quick email to customer service and they'll probably give you much better instructions then I ever could.

Your d-tuna fine tuning screw shouldn't have more than a couple of turns on it. It doesn't work well if the fine tuning screw is torqued down alot.

The trem posts might have ben adjusted to allow it to float or sit back at an angle. It should rest flat on the body.

Give CS a call later today (it's 1:30 am in SLO right now). It may just need a professional setup.

It sounds like the trem post were raised. The bridge plate should be level w/ the body & the springs should be adjusted so the bridge rests against the body & you can't pull up.

The neck might need some relief also. Of all my guitars, my EVH requires a couple of truss rod adjustments a year (summer, winter). If it's been sitting for a long time, it might need a small adjustment. Let's see some pics!!! :D

Pic 1 of Floyd Rose at Rest

I took many many photo's to get this pic. It shows quite clearly the angles and resulting gaps of the Floyd Rose against the Body on all sides. It appears to be resting right on the corner facing us. The question is how to get it right. The posts that the FR pivot on are screwed into the body. If I screw these down further, are they going to crack the finish? Or are these holes countersunk and unfinished to avoid just such an issue?

do you want the vibrato bridge to float......or just go down only ???
when i set up floyds....i always set up the bridge plate level w/ the top of the guitar.
sometimes a shim is required to achieve this. sometimes not.

Ditto Tommy! - never to fluctuate or compromise, a must before "setting up"!

My personal approach: I typically go to the "neck" pocket" (and shim, metal only) to accomplish whether I want to set the "center" strings at perfect action (and thus subsequently shim the outside individual saddles) or set the outer strings with NPS at perfect action (and thus subsequently shim the inside individual saddles).

Does anyone happen to know the "various sizes" of the EBMM neck pocket shims??

Just a quick note to close this and follow up. I sent the guitar to the factory to be set-up. It was back in my hands in 3 business days. They did a beautiful job. If I loved the guitar before, I can't even describe my feelings now. The biggest difference was in the rework of the neck. Satiny, slick and incredible. Quality, quality, quality.
