But I am a new Member (former lurker) and I AM annoyed with y'all..
REASON?

All your talk here of BONGO.

Well OK, so you convinced me to try one, and what do you think happened?

Now I know all about EB/MM, the quality, the price, and the sound, yada yada, had a 'Ray years back
but hey, really...The Bongo takes it to another level then doesn't it?


So, yeah, I bought it yesterday (Merry Xmas to me, few weeks early) and have stopped playing only to eat, and ya know....

First gig- Tomorrow night- Judging from the eq I've tweaked in my studio, I hope the Band is prepared to hear what I'lll be sayin'.

Seriously, amazing instrument, it's a Desert Gold H/SC btw.
And although I realize they do not exist w/out pics, sorry my laptop doesn't want
to play nice with my camera, USB port issues.

But Oh yeah, I've got it- And a lot of you folks here had a lot to do with pushing me towards it (some more than others..YOU know who you are!)

But the tone and feel of the instrument itself was the dealmaker.
Awesome.

I may just chirp in here from time to time to add my .02, but for the next few days or weeks, quality time with my new bass.

Welcome to the forum, C2. I LOVE my Bongos and I'm glad you found yours. I have a feeling the band will be carried along for the ride no matter what you have to say! No choice with a Bongo.

Rex is right -- 18 volts! Plus a lovely neck, great ergonomics and tone for years. And people LOVE how it looks!

So, I assume you must be "thin as a rail" and lightning fast!!

Thanks for the Welcome and nice words, Ladies and Gents.
This is a nice place.

After a 2-gig weekend with my new Bongo, I wanted to post some impressions, and maybe annoy someone sitting on the fence into jumping into Bongo-Land:

2 gigs; five sets total- One doing R&B covers (think Etta James & Aretha) in a club at pretty good volume, the other playing Jazz and Pop standards at a casual,pretty low-key.

Bongo performed perfectly in both instances. Very versatile Bass. First off, one of the most comfortable instruments I've used. There must have been a good deal of thought put into the ergonomics; the proportion of the upper horn, the contour, etc. Nice.

Tone- I have issues with mids, due to my attack and the fact that I use very light-gauge strings. I've adressed it by using compression, para- and graphic eq's in the signal chain. No longer needed.
The 4-band Bongo eq allowed me to scoop exactly the right amount from my low-mids to get the tone I wanted.
I'm sure you're aware that the Bass has enough bottom to rumble a room, and the highs are very focused and bright without any harshness at all.

I was able to get both a perfect phat "old-school" R&B tone as well as a nice, round and even tone for the jazz-oriented, mellow performance.
Impressive- I imagine a fretless Bongo does some amazing things...

One additional comment- Drummers, guitarists, vocalists, keys, etc. generally don't follow Bass Guitar forums, and for the most part aren't up-to-speed on the "tools of our trade". But with both groups of players- When I took the Bongo out of my gigbag, the comments were:
"Wow! What a cool-looking bass!"
It happened.

Finally- I realize that without a pic, I must dwell in the nether world, and I understand and appreciate that! However, I hope this may get me a small amount of sympathy:
My laptops shuts down when I use the USB port- No printer, no accessories, nothing- no digital camera; no photos!
No problem, it's served it's purpose and will soon be replaced with an updated model.

My significant other told me this:
"You really NEED a new laptop, and you have 3 other basses!
Why did you buy THAT NEW ONE??"

I could explain, but she'd be bored, and it's not that our sofa is uncomfortable to sleep on, but the TV doesn't get cable channels too well, downstairs, where I'd then be sleeping....
Besides, she listens to Michael Bolton (not that there's anything wrong with that),
so some things are better left unsaid.
