I have Systematic Chaos and Train of Thought. Where should I head now? Looking for the next DT album that JP does some really heavy playing on either de-tuned or seven string heaven. Six Degrees??

Well, on 6 Degrees, the only 7-String song IIRC was The Glass Prison.

Awake has The Mirror and Lie.

JP didn't really start doing the de-tuning thing until Train of Thought. There is some de-tuning on Octavarium, but it's not as heavy as Train of Thought or Systematic Chaos for the most part.

So, I'd probably say go with Awake.

If you don't have Scenes From A Memory yet, I don't understand how you could be a Dream Theater fan at all.

Just my opinion. Awake is a good bet for heavy riffage.

i would go for "SFAM Metropolis Part 2" for the next CD. for me it is still the best DT album ever.
some will lough at me now, but i more and more love Falling Into Infinity. especially Trial of Tears - wow a perfect song.
so my choice would be:
SFAM
FII
Octavarium

If its the detuned or 7 strung metal sound you want then i would recommend Six Degrees (too much filler on Awake for me) but for the perfect DT experience, go for Scenes From A Memory...doesnt "Home" use a drop d tuning...thats kinda heavy

Agreed... Though, I'd have to say you'll need both Scenes from a Memory and Images & Words to be a real fan...

Oh well. I got them all... Heh. but honestly, the BEST album they've done has got to be Scenes From a Memory. That's my key favourite. Excluding that, would have to be Octavarium, then (not sure if this is counted) A Change Of Seasons. 6 Degrees is actually my least favourite. Disc one was a bit draggy for my liking, but Disc 2 was the killer!

Dammit... They're all good...:D
