The Bongo i got last week is in pretty bad shape, most of it does not bother me at all,as its only chipped paint on the body.
But the neck has lumps taken out of it,man i really dont understand what type of person treats a bass like this. There is two large chips in the neck right at the third and fifth frets.I have tried to ignore them but i cant. The finish is chipped right down to the paint and its getting on my back!

So i took some sand paper to it,just a wee bit at first to try to take the finish on the chip down a bit but...........i could not stop over the past 2 days i brought it right down to the wood.It feels amazing it looks strange ( i will post a pic tomorrow) but it plays wonderful.:D

the only reason i did it was because the neck was in so bad a shape, there was two bad chips but there was 13 in total just on the neck.if they where not there i would have touched it

Anyway,I believe to finish it off i need to put some kind of gun wax on it,does any body know what this is or where i can get it. OR should i try to get the neck refinished again.

this old beaten up Bongo has touch me in a way no other bass has,i still love my SR5 but the bongo is just amazing.

Amen, halabaluuujah, etc., etc.

:D

I've been preachin' the bare neck'd Bongo for quite some time now and it's great to see another that is of The Way :p

I am of the persuasion that if Bongo necks came nekkid...... there might be a few more flying out the shop door but that's in my infinite wisdom as a dumba$$ that do play but don't manufacture OR build instruments for a living and passion. again, BP, my dumba$$'d-ness is duly noted and accounted for, I just really dig bald Bongo necks.

DTG - if you have a gun shop nearby (not sure if there is one in Dublin) they will have the needed oil. If not try a shop called Holland and Holland. They are gun makers based in London but do sell stuff over the net (no guns mind you) but they should be able to help.
If you have any problems drop me a private message and I will ask them (we publish their magazine so I can ask my contact there to help.)

no gun shops in dublin? now that's just crazy! Haha no offense mate.

and i really can't get my head round how people can damage the neck like that, of all things. I've never put a dent in a neck... Let alone 13, that's stupid! Anyways yeah, get some photos up!

i didn't take the neck off (never done it before so i just did not have the guts) so i just taped off the two ends of the neck and covered everything up so no dust got on or into it.

oops i just looked at the first pic,yes that is my lunch box,no i dont use the furniture polish on my bass and yes that box of christmas lights are now on the tree.

funny thing is i dont think there is any gun shops in Dublin  and i dont think its a bad think,

I live in Sligo and we have a really good gun shop,I told the guy who works there what i was doing and he wants to see the finished product as he plays a les paul guitar and is now thinking of doing the same,so i told it would be a better idea to sell it and buy a Musicman :D ya gotta spread the love

I'm with Pete... from looks, they should come like that.

However, still trying to find a Bongo in Switzerland to test drive. Heard today, there wouldn't be any available until May...

Completely O/T, but there is at least one that I know of in Manchester city centre.

On topic, that neck looks pretty cool.
