Did anyone have a problem with this? For example I cannot execute legato runs past the 12th fret anymore using 4 fingers...I have to switch to using 3 fingers (without the pinky), because the neck is much smaller...Is this just a matter of practicing again or should I continue with using the technique that feels most comfortable?
What bothers me is that I have spent years to master the "proper" technique, advocated by Paul Gilbert and Satriani for example, and now I cannot do it on this guitar...I will upload a video later to show you guys what I mean...
Any advice much appreciated...

I agree to some extent: it takes a little getting used to when you're coming from Fender, Jackson, Ibanez or whatever side.

The neck may feel smaller, although the scale is 25 1/2" like on all Str*t-type guitars.

I don't know what EBMM model you play, I myself play the Luke II and the frets have a medium profile and the string spacing is a little more narrow than on my Strat for example.
At first, I had some difficulties with fast alternate pickings and string bends, but as of today, I have totally homed in on my Luke.

The way I see it, it even helped me to play more accurate and to be more precise with my playing technique!

So my advice for you would be to be patient and keep practicing, after a short period of time you will be most comfortable with your EBMM!
Don't change your technique, I am sure you put lots of effort into it, so don't give it away!
A new guitar is like a new friend, you have to get to know each other, but you should not have to change yourself in order to get along with each other :)

Rock on!

I don't have giant monster fingers, so it was actually a nice change for me. A lot easier on the joints for folks like me with smaller hands. :)

What MM do you play? The Petrucci, for example, has a wide neck and jumbo Frets. Lots of EBMM players have great technique and don't have any issues (Petrucci again, Morse, Luke, etc.)

I'd say you just need to adjust to your guitar. Different neck sizes & fret heights will require a different touch.

Yeah,

I have no problem at all on my Axis!! I have larger hands, and my fingers are a tad longer and bigger than average.

The Axis being 1 5/8 at the nut & 2 3/16 is NOT a narrow neck. The back profile is average, radius is average & has normal F spacing down under.

Not usually a problem for me although my ibanez was a lot bigger. I do find even though in some cases it feels a little cramped on my Axis neck there are situations, especially with big stretches or sweep picking, that feel much, much easier on it. And complex chord shapes are far easier on it too.

I changed my Lukes fretwire to a slightly taller wire and the result is huge for me... I know Luke prefers the smaller wire but a taller wire works for me and thats really what matters, my guitars are my work tools... my Luke is fantastic for me right now with the new fretwire.... legato is no problem whatsoever..:)

It's the widest of the MM necks. But I suppose it's all relative. The JP7 is probably wider than your Jem ;)

so true, but maybe now the argument rises 'the universe is wide than the JP7' hehe

The guitar I am talking about is a Floyd Rose Silhouette. I guess it's just gonna take some time to get used to the neck. I played an Ibanez RG before I bought this guitar so you can imagine the diference...

If the neck on the Regular Silo's is anything like the necks on the 20th Silo's, going from playing an RG to that would be quite a challenge. I know that I thought the neck on the Silo's were thick, and the RG necks are crazy thin. I think it'll just take some getting used to and you'll have no problems. :)
