Tone?

I was professional and considerate. I told him that I was already an EB owner and fan etc. I was disappointed that the shim came by way of a piece of plastic that ultimately didn't correct the problem. I am in sales as a profession and understand the relationship between clients and businesses. I guess that most people that pay a couple of thousand dollars for a guitar that doesn't begin to meet initial set up requirements and have problems getting anyone from the company to help them are simply Super -A- Holes. I am simply extremely frustrated with a company that doesn't respond to my issues. I've spoken with A.J. and he was extremely helpful in directing me to the right people to talk to. The problem is that I was told on two seperate occasions that someone would get back to me and no one ever did. Do whatever you want with your suspicions, but I'm happy to forward you any correspondence with dates etc. Perhaps then you will be able to judge more fairly!
This is my two cents on the whole shimming deal. And mind you i am a VERY picky person when i comes to these things.
I took my Axis to my guitar tech here to do a fix up on the floyd nut plateau cause the previous owner messed it up. Anyway while i was at it, i told him to put 'proper' shims in the heel so it doesnt use the plastic ones that EBMM used.
So i got the guitar back from my tech and i personally didnt like the way he had it set up. I wanted more relief and resetting it made the action change. So now i had to change it back to what it was. I took out the shims he made from hardwood and put the EBMM ones plus one i made from sandpaper.
I assure you, NOTHING changed in terms of tone, sustain or ANYTHING. This kinda shocked me in a good way of course.
I could before and can now slide a piece of thin paper in the neck pocket to show you the gap between the neck and pocket. But it doesnt do anything to the tone and sustain. NOT A THING.
Even John Suhr said he didnt like shims, but i cannot see anything that happened bad to the guitar.
I have heard from many other techs that the contact that the neck makes in the pocket isnt really that important as we think. What matters most is the contact at the bridge and string tuners.
Anyway i just wanted to say that, the stuff EBMM uses for shims might be a little quirky looking but it is practical and works well.
Oh and by the way, to the guy who got offended cause Randy had a complaint. Chill man. no one said anything about anyones mother. It is just a guitar. Some of us may love them and others wont agree with them. Its ok. No problem. We dont have to crucify them.
He just thought the guitar wasnt setup properly thats all.
