1. is this a good start?

Quite possibly the best start one could make. I have mine in my lap right now. I've said it before: best. stingray. ever.

2. is there a 30th AV Stingray Club?

No. But there should be. And Silverburst would be our president.

3. Oh, and how many 30th's were made during 2006? anyone know?

Don't quote me, I could look it up, but I have a 30th SR4 in my lap! I think it was in the 700s.

4. not a scratch on it, brand new with case candy...(what all comes in the case anyway?)

Some tasty little bags full of dessicant. A key to the case, maybe two! Instructions on how to change the battery. A polishing cloth. And the. best. Stingray. ever. What else could you want?

5. ...AND the case is SO COOL...............

Yes, it is.

6. I am VERY excited!!!!!

As well you should be!

oh, the bongo has crossed my mind......I have seen them , but never played one.....

but, I really dont wanna look at that .....

I am sure it would be a vicious downward spiral from that point on....

is that serial number sound right? I am gonna call EB and try to find out the born on date.

BUT, the bass also has the cardboard box that it was shipped in....maybe there is info on the labels on the box

please please please dont tell me about the Bongo! hahahhahahaha!

thanks for all the info BTW, I feel really welcome already, all in the first 24 hours...

any recommmendations on care and upkeep? besides, play alot!!!! and get a pro setup, which should be easy here in NYC...

I use rotosound 105's.....so i gotta put a new set on when I pick it up.....even though it has new strings, but, hey....gives me something to do when I get the thing home!

Nice job rokkitt! You couldn't have picked a better start. I, too, have mine in my lap right now. Nothing plays quite like this bass. And if you like folk music......oh man this is heaven. :D

Beware, however, of people preaching the Bongo. There's plenty of time, Limited Editions, and Sterlings to be had before you venture into the 18v world. ;)

Congrats rokkitt and welcome. You're gonna dig this place.

Welcome & congrats on your 30th; I commend your great taste. If a club is formed, consider me joined. :)

Now Jack, I've got to ask. Do I take your "best Stingray ever" statement at face value, meaning without a number at the end of the 2nd word, or were you talking specifically about the quad-stringed variety?

Welcome to the club! The serial number sounds right for a 30th.

We'll teach you the secret handshake after your probationary period.

A friendly tip: Play the bass with the stirngs it came with for a while, then you can put Rotos on it. My guess is you'll go back to the kind the bass came with.

Funny thing, I went to the music store today to buy some new strings for mine, and the salesguy, (who I know), when he heard I had bought a Stingray wanted me to play on his blues project, lol.

they had just changed the strings on the bass when I saw it.

what kind of strings are original on this thing?

I like rotosounds, and I also like Hard Rockin' Steel by d'addario (I think)

so, what brand of strings do MM's come with outta the factory?

welcome to the club ;)

the 30th are awesome axes!!! my pride is the single piece body, extremely pritty birds eye maple neck fretless :)

hmm.. but then again.. my 20th is an excellent looker.. and player. man that b string is just so alive. i hardly notice any difference when fretting an e on the b string and the open e string itself. normally the fretted note just muffles in, but not this baby!!!!!

and yet again.. the bongo is so versatile. p sound.. j sound.. everything in between and then lots more! its PERFECT with flatwounds on it.. so punchy, so nasty.. just a lil flick on any of the tone controls and its a different ballgame.. and you got 4 of em (at least on the dual pickup/piezo versions ;))

be glad you dont have to wait till the bass arrives, or else you prolly would buy a cpl more while you wait!
its the blessing of mm addiction :D

ps: a 30th oc would be neat!

so, way back when ..... January 25th , 2008 ......the beginning of this thread.

I put a 30th SR4 on layway.

Well, I picked it up this weekend, November 15th, 2008.....

wow!

what a bass.

I am more than stoked, and I didnt even plug it in yet. The neck and fretboard feels so good......

TWO things,

how do I adjust the truss rod? there was no tool included.....how do I spin that round thing with the holes?

I am going to try to give this to myself for a Christmas present ....think I can wait?

oh......... a trip down memory lane......

back in the early 80's when I played guitar....1979 actually

I used to own a 2 x 10 guitar amp by music man, ....and then had a 112 RD amp by music man as well.....

I really dont remember the 2 x 10 amp that well, but the 112 RD amp was great!

Dont remember ever being in a band with a bass player that had a musicman ....my bassist had a Gibson EB-3. And the other bassist had a Fender, black with maple, PBass.

Then.....in 1982, I started on bass. Fender bullet bass was all I could afford. $225 with case brand new.

Back then, I never thought I would own a music man bass....but I knew what they were....and always admired them. I think a Fender Pbass was on the wall, at about $450 to $550, but that was major cheddah!

we made $100 a gig, I think. and we bought equipment. tape delay , altec lansing cabs, with 511b horns, rented an ampeg head and cab....

But the beer was free! hahahhaha......

Miller Genuine Draft, and a Kamikazi. (the bartender used to say, when that is empty, come see me. And when the Kami is empty come and see me.....no charge!)

So, it only took me 25 plus years, but now I own music man again.
A Bass. A Stingray. A 30th Anniversary. Imagine that. Never thought that would happen!

Finally... I own a real quality, brand new American Made bass. The last new one I bought new was in 1982....and 1992....now in 2008....

Thank you Ernie Ball family.

Really.

Thank you.

Finally.....

woot woot!

:D
