AL w/piezo compared to no piezo? Trem, no trem?

Hey, ALOC!

Question for you. For those of you who have tried both the AL with piezo and without, do you think they sound different from one another? I could be off my rocker, but I think the non-piezo JPs sound a bit fuller and thicker than the piezo-equipped ones.

Another question. Do you think the hardtail ALs sound markedly different from the trem-equipped ALs?

The AL w/piezo sounds no different, trem vs hardtail is a better comparison. With trem sounds a lot different to without trem, but i think the feel is more important. The hardtails feel better for me, while bending, but maybe i prefer the tone of the trem.

The piezo (block) saddles are different from the vintage ones, so that would be a small tonal difference.

The argument for trem or no trem is often banded about on the forum.

The musicman trem is really stable and you will experience no problem using double stops - it's not temperamental like a floyd. Albert Lee plays live with an AL that has a trem - and he has no problems.

I seem to remember Candidx talking about trem equipped guitars having more of a ring to them - also it has been quoted that Clapton often played a Strat with a trem but had it blocked off.

Getting an AL without a Piezo is like buying a computer without a printer - yes you can live without it - but man it is so useful when you need it.

I'm an avid fan of putting the piezo through an acoustic amp - and man the first time I heard it , it was like someone had punched me in the stomach - the sound was (ans still is awesome) - I was really taken aback when I heard it.

Get the piezo and the trem - then the AL will cover all bases - I will be so interested in hearing an AL in your hands - through the Mesa clean it's fantastic. With some gain it is awesome.
That guitar can cover all bases.

I'd say that if you ever, even fleetingly hanker after a trem then get one with the trem, it is THAT good.

I have the trem on my AL, and while I don't use it all that often it is nice to have for those times when I do. I put the solid steel saddles on mine instead of the bent one out just for comfort reasons - that's another reason I like the piezo, it comes with similar saddles!
