Eh, I got jacked too! Technically, my friends did - but they had my GK. Here's the details:

So, since I bought the Little Mark 2 its been my #1 amp and I recently lent my GK to a buddy. His band's doing super well locally and he was playing a POS so i offered up my GK and an Avatar 2x12 as a loner till he could get a proper setup for himself.

Well, last night, his band's van got broken into & all their gear was stolen including my 1001! Sean also plays a Sterling but he was so frantic on the phone that I didn't ask if his Sterling was in the van at the time of the robbery.

This really sucks. I'm way bummed for them. The GK was my backup and im unscathed here. but those guys are a working, original act and are scraping by. Sean's close to working out a deal with an amp company so hopefully he'll be "ok" in that department but i really hope his bass isn't gone.

This just pisses me off (has nothing to do with my GK - but as a supporter of working bands). These guys work hard as a band. As up and comers there's no $ for them yet even tho they've been on Good morning america & played Live 105's big winter concert etc. They're working part time jobs (aka low paying BS) so they can put serious time into the band and this is a real setback... can't gig/practice w/o gear and theyre in no position to walk into GC and restock on gear :( Poor guys

F'in thieves!!! hopefully their insurance can make a proper dent in the actual replacement cost

I'll keep my eyes open on the SF, Sacramento, Modesto, and Stockton CraigsList postings...though I'd be really surprised to see any of these items on there.

Is the Avatar gone, too, and which model/tolex cover/ohms?

Yes, the more info the better to catch the shmucks who did this. I absolutely loathe stealing of any sort. :(

I hate to hear about stuff like this. Instruments are just too personal to steal (amongst other things). I hope things work out in the end (i.e. they get their stuff back and the crook(s) are caught).

Man that sucks Arin....same thing happened to Strung Out recently.I hope they are able to get their gear replaced without too much hassle or paying out too much cash. I'm sorry about your amp too, I know the LMKII is your main amp but it's always good to have a backup and the 1001RBII is a great amp.Keep us posted on what happens...

Honestly i have no idea if the avatar got stolen or not. I spoke to sean very briefly. he called to fill me in and sounded like he was in a hurry which i could understand. the avatar was a 2x12 @ 4ohm. 100% basic w/ black covering - no optional stuff at all.

Thanks for keeping an eye on thing guys. I'm not too bummed honestly cuz its not my main rig and sean assured me that their insurance $ would cover my GK.

Im just worried about the band. my end of this should pan out fine since my stuff was used and the replacement $ should cover it. i know the guys had just purchased some new gear so im way more concerned with their stuff than mine

AH man I hate it when this kind of stuff happens to good hard working people.

If he needs to use my 1001 as a loaner too, let me know. I'll send it.

I hope the thieves get what they deserve!

Hey Phatduckk,

I'm real sorry to hear you and yourpals got ripped off ...
here's sum old man talkin' stuff for you and everybody else to ponder ... but, first, I'll cut to the chase and get to the bottom line ...

Of course thieves are slimeballs and don't deserve any slack, but it does seem that in this case, they did have an opportunity and took advantage of it ... I mean ... who took their eyes off the van??? I'm not trying to "blame " anybody of your pals ... but we're talkin' about reality in big city life here and there is some valuable gear gone the wrong way ... a year ago, I had a night job as a mobile canine patrol security guard ... I drove about 200 miles per shift, all night, in/out and up /down through parkades in some of the worst (high crime rate) sections of this city ... me and my dog were pretty good as a team .. my puppie was fast, aggressive and fierce, but even so, we couldn't be everywhere watching every car and parking space at once ... a big part of our job was about sniffing out sleepers in parkade stairwells and evicting them and challenging unauthorized persons found on location ... one of the unhappiest parts of the job was arriving on the scene of a breakin and chatting with the victim who's vehicle had just been broken into and ransacked ... all I could really do was make notes, phone the police to come and make a report and remind the poor unlucky soul to keep his insurance paid up ...many of the bad guys are what we refer to as "amateurs" ... who do ripoffs because they find an opportunity ... many of them in this city do it to dump their booty for a few bucks worth of crack or crystal meth ... and that's a fast paced business in this town ... the fact is, me and my puppie quit the job one morning last February after being attacked by a methhead with a knife, who we found camping in a parkade stairwell ... we survived the battle but the badguy got away and the cops are not too happy about how these characters get in and out of court without even a "slap on the wrist" ... and it was my responsibility under federal law to avoid letting my dog bite the badguy because that would be argued against me and the dog in court as "excessive force" never mind "self-defence" ... the real point here is that you have to be your own security guard when loading and unloading gear at a gig, and you have to recognize that most badguys are amateurs who merely recognize an opportunity to do a ripoff, and take advantage of it ... so, everybody, Watch your backs and avoid giving the badguys any opportunities.

Oh yeah, one more thing, better don''t trust pawn shop operators and remember, that includes, better don't buy from them because that only encourages them to deal with gear that is quite possibly ripped off.

End of story and lecture

I hope you find your gear and I hope your pals don't get too badly derailed by this unhappy experience ...

oh yeah, and, as "Red Green says "remember, we're all in this together!"

Watch Your Backs everybody ... and think security when loading and unloading gear ... make sure you create the impression that your gear is being protected and watched, and don't hesitate to call police and report any suspicious looking characters or activity during loading or unloading ... in this city, the badguys know when and where all the action is and they troll looking for opportunities. Don't give them any!!!

all the bass,
/PL:)

Cops are too heavy to carry in your pocket and only minutes away from stopping crime in any situation. They do more investigating than stopping imho.

Thieves are slime balls and shouldn't be sucking air.

Hope everyone comes out of this okay Arin.

If it'll help, I can send him my backup head. It's a Hartke HA4000. If they will just pay shipping, I'd be glad to help.

Phatty...that sucks.

Ok. I had an incident (the fire and lost all my stuff) and this forum jumped in to help me. Big Poppa, Beth, and Dan especially.

I got money from that and basically bought my same set up bass wise. My GK, eq, limiter/compressor, wireless...etc.

My band is not longer gigging and I have no problem what so ever in helping your friends out. Phatty, we are friends and I am here ready to send this out to you to let you friends at least have a bass amp. Just give me the word.

I know the feeling of losing things and the best part is...no one was hurt. I also know the feeling of other people's generosity and I am here to give it back. Karma is something I really believe in.

Phatty, hit me up via PM if you want this to happen. The rack can be at your house no later than Thursday your time.

Way to go Carpedbass!!:)

PTL

Thanks, but I'm really not trying to be a hero or anything. It would just be a loan until they get on their feet enough to get a rig. Then they would need to send it back. I don't forsee my Ampeg SVT4Pro crashing anytime soon. Even if it did, i would hope someone would help me out.:)
