Does anybody have any suggestions on a device (pedal, sampler program or other toy) that will record a phrase or loop of drum and bass that I've played and then be able to be played over to practice leads or harmonizations. Hopefully something simple that can be played through my amp when I 'shed.

Thank you in advance. You are all a bunch of great folks!!!!!

boss makes a cheap sampler (don't remember the model) raggae dj use them A LOT (they mix samples into the music they're playing)! mpc 2000 is awsome (discontinued and should be real cheap). check akai and boss/korg website and when you find what your looking for check ebay for deals.
thats my story and i'm sticking to it!!!

Digitech JamMan.

This is better than the Boss RC20 IMHO because the loops are contained on a compact flash (CF) card, just like those used in many digital cameras. Using the largest CF card, you can hold hours of audio.

Which means that in addition to using it as a looper you can load it up with backing tracks, enough for a whole gig and more.

Or you can make an incredibly long loop. The RC20 has a length limit IIRC.

It'll hold 99 loops.

In other words, you won't be limited by its capacity. You'll run out of steam before you run out of space.

My band doesn't have a live drummer, and we use one to hold all our drum parts. Works great.

Dunno. I'm not the Keeper of the Pedal.

I do know there's a metronome built into it that you can vary, but that's not what you're asking, right? You want to speed up something you've already recorded?

I don't *think* we have the ability to speed up our backing tracks with the pedal, but I don't know for sure.

That would require pitch correction as well as speed alteration. That's pretty sophisticated for a pedal.

The manual is available for download on the Digitech website.

When I offered my less-than-thorough "Garage Band" answer, I should have added that you can drag MP3s and WAV files into tracks and have them loop endlessly for practice purposes. There are a bazillion cool drum loops, too.
