Pre EB Sabre Bridge

Hey Everyone , How are you all? This is my first posting here on this site, but I have been A die hard MM player since '78. I have pretty much been through a lot of Stingrays , but always wanted a Sabre. I bought one yesterday that is a '79 tob. sunb. with maple neck and lets just say it is killer! One problem, well two problems upon closer inspection; no pre amp and a later top load EB bridge. The pots are original and dated to the bass and the body and neck are june 8 '79 and june 12 '79 respectively. Doee any one out there have a Sabre bridge (pre-EB) that I could buy? or a pre amp? I have spare 1980 fretless neck (ebony) and some other pre-EB parts that I am willing to give up for the good of this Sabre.
My other MM is a '77 inca silver Stingray with a rose wood neck. Thanks , SR

Yes but No

The '79's had the style of bridge on the black one, this bridge is got a serial #R1021 which doesn't really jive with the rest of the bass. I noticed that you can see the marks in the paint from where the original bridge use to be, so I took it off to find that it didn't even have the inserts to hold the outer allens. It was just threaded into the wood!!!! I know this bass will stay with me so It would be nice to at least get the correct bridge for it or have this one installed the right way.

Anthony(aka Silver Ray)...after you emailed me I had asked for pics. The general Forum wont be able to help...you have to show pics so we can understand what you're talking about

Silver, congrats on the Sabre. I just about fell over when you said you have an inca silver StingRay.
But a Sabre bridge is going to be the hardest thing to find. I can't say that I have ever seen one for sale.

R1021 is a legit serial number. A similar bridge with serial "R1012" was used on a Red Hot Chilli Peppers Bass auctioned for the Casey Lee Ball Foundation (2002-03).

But I can't begin to imagine why a bridge like that has been replaced on your 1979 Sabre :confused:

PS. I can rember only one Sabre bridge coming up for auction on Ebay and that was a couple of years ago.

Here are some quik shots of my main soakers. The silver "ray" has been with me since '84 and I paid 400.00 for it. I always wanted a silver one 'cuz when I was youmg I saw a Rick James record with one one the cover and I was like yeah boyee. My first was when I was 14 and I bought it off this studio dude that was friend with Joel Dibartolo and he said he got it from him. Sunburst Stingray with maple neck ser.# B001876. The body was thrown out by the cleaners when we moved. The Sabre I scored for 800.00 . I know I am going into dark territory by putting up the Rick, but it is silver too. It is a 50 year annv. issue, I have a thing for silver I guess. Thanks, SR

If you look at the pics in this post, you can see that all except one of the Sabres have the StingRay bridge (with mutes). It's hard to tell from your pic of the Sabre whether yours has the black pickup covers or just very dark pole pieces.

PS: That's one Rick I like!
