Hi guys. First off, I'm a new member here and have been interested in Ernie Balls since I started playing guitar (10 years ago). Don't currently have a MM, but I'm in the process of saving up for one and had a couple of questions:
1. Feel wise, is there much difference between the Silo and the Axis? I ask this because my first and main love has always been the axis. I currently play a strat in my band and, though the sound is nice, I always remember the first time I tried a quilted red SS with a finished maple neck. It was like butter and I've yet to play another guitar that had that combination of speed and comfort. I could get a silo for cheaper (and eventually would like to buy one anyway), but the axis is my foremost choice. Any thoughts?
2. For those of you with axis guitars, what string gauge do you use? I like using 10's, and was wondering if any of you have had any issues with changing gauges. Does it effect playability much?
3. In the band I'm in, our other guitar player plays a tele through a mesa boogie lonestar. Currently I'm playing a strat through a deville. Our whole thing is he covers the high end of the pectrum, where I provide a lower sound. I know that with a MM, that'll give me more bottom end. My worry is with distortion. I had a bad experience years ago with a certain unnamed brand guitar's dimarzios. They sounded VERY fuzzy with no definition. Does the distortion have a nice breakup? You know, not too muddy with just enough bite (I realize this is subjective, just looking for a general idea).
By the way, I'm a member of a multitude of internet forums of different kinds, and you guys are by far the nicest people I've come across. I can't wait to be a part of the MM community!
