Those prices are insane. If I didn't already have a 30th, which cost me a lot more and was worth every penny, I'd snap those up. Wonder Wipes and a good setup will probably fix everything that's making people think twice about them, but the essential character and quality of these basses should still shine through.

Could a few of you document those 30th prices? I am ready to pitch a fit at the Atlanta GC for charging me so much more. It would help if I had proof of prices at other stores.

I'd consider anything below the average selling price a good deal.
BTW, when did you get your 30th? I was up there (i'm about an hour and a half south) about a month ago and played a nice 30th at that GC.

I did too. Quite a bit more. But mine hadn't been touched by anyone except the EBMM folks & the dealer I bought it through, which I like.

yip, i paid a lot for mine as well. last bass i waited for got sold out and was tough to find (namm 100). so, i had the cash and jumped on the 30 ann. (no regrets)

Saw that one at the San Ho GC last week, along with a nice sapphire black Bongo. The poor SR was abused...some inconsiderate a$$ played it with keys hanging from his/her belt and scratched the heck out of the back. How people can do things like this are beyond me.

I got one from GC 2 months ago, and paid quite a bit more than $1050. It was in fine shape, felt svelte in my hands, and of course, sounded downright DEADLY! (I love mahogany and MM!!)
That said, I was given a "standard" MM case. It wasnt until a week later, that I did some research on my puchase on this website that I noticed the 30th comes with a LE case. So I marched back to GC and exchanged the cases evenly. GC had to "order" me a new LE case. Where are these LE cases going?? Its interesting that this seams to be a GC phenomenon!

$1050 for a new 30th is a good price. The knob is a few bucks... no biggie there. setup should/could be free with purchase. as far as a dinged headstock... id assume that's one reason the bass is priced as low as it is.
as far as the case - well you got the explanation on that. try to negotiate that and see where u get.

I paid more and it was definitely worth every penny of it. These will not last, no one in their right minds should pass an opportunity to get one if they get a chance. It may even be worth a road trip

I agree. The bass is worth every penny. All I needed was incentive. I was looking at putting a fretted neck on my '79 Stingray, but a completely new bass saves me from touching the vintage one.
All it took was a few hundred off list to get me thinking. And a comparison play. I am amazed at the action and tone in comparison to a standard Stingray, a model that I feel pretty much embodies one specific feel and sound. The 30th Anniversary model, though, takes the best of the vintage and new and makes something really special.
If I read the serial number correctly, mine is an early production model and is about as new as one can get.
My problems are with GC and their practices. My initial offer was pretty fair, but after some hemming and hawing, I let the salesdude bump me up the extra $100 because the bass seemed worth it. Then I got into the mess with the wrong case, the excuses, and the possibility of paying extra for the right case.
Didn't mean to hijack this thread, sorry. I hope this mini-rant helps others somehow. Even at $1750, the 30th Anniversary is a good buy. I want to play just looking at it.

The 30th Ray in Cherry Hill NJ's GC is missing two knobs, looks like cream cheese was spread on the pickup and strings and is listed @ $1749. I feel really sorry for that bass.

I apologize for steamthief's experience. It's difficult (to say the least) to replace all the stolen/missing knobs and other parts that get pilfered on all the instruments in a GC store. If an instrument hangs around a while, we find that we can buy knobs for it several times before it is finally sold. Also, in our hands-on store environment, it goes without saying that some KFC-encrusted hands could obviously use washing prior to handling the instruments, for which we thank you in advance. We have received a lot of help from the Knucks in raising awareness of this aspect of the business and we appreciate it.
The instrument in question is a 2006 model that hasn't yet found a home, but is an excellent bass that has undoubtedly enjoyed plenty of attention from many customers.
The prices being suggested are hundreds of dollars lower than our asking price, which is not set by the stores, but set at the management office, without visibility to individual instruments and their condition. We rely on store personnel to make appropriate adjustments to prices as needed on shopworn goods.
We're trying to address these and other issues, and I know it feels like two steps forward, one step back sometimes...but we ARE working on solutions and finding ways to improve this. We care greatly about improving the quality of the experience and hope you notice this in your local GC store.
Also, for the benefit of all, please know that cases are separated from incoming instruments because they are stored in a warehouse and we have to track that inventory. If they were not tracked, (a) the case couldn't be sold to a customer that needs one and (b) we would lose track of the case inventory in our system. Inventory control drives this policy, not a desire to deceive anyone. And some customers DON'T want a standard case, preferring a gig bag or flight case. We are trying to accommodate them, too.
P.S. If it were me, steamthief, I'd buy the bass (if I loved it as you indicated) and ask the sales associate for a complimentary set of strings, some wonder wipes and a few bucks to have it set up to your playing preference. Then enjoy it!
