d'oh!

I tried plugging my new monster cable into the JP6 last night (which I've been doing for 3 weeks).. and it kept falling out...

I looked at the tip of the cable and realised the end portion was missing! I assume it's stuck inside my JP6 (can't really see it..)

Now.. here's a question: am I being stupid? do the two inputs on the JP6 require different _sized_ cable inputs? Was I losing my mind putting in a normal guitar cable into the piezo input? I mean.. it worked fine for 3 weeks.... So i'm thinking i just got a dodgy cable

thoughts?

Thanks,
Chris.

The sockets are identical sizes.

I guess a bit of invasive surgery is required - open her up and do a tip ectomy!!

Failing that the guitar is doomed and should be packed nice and snuggly and sent to the "Spud Murphy home for disabled guitars" where it can see out the rest of it's life in comfort!!

Don't listen to Spud, he's just making a funny.
Cardiff, UK is much too far away to send your disabled guitar, if you can't fix it.
Considering that you too are in CT, the Greenwizard Care and Consideration Center is a much better choice for you beloved instrument!

Ah but I can offer a unique Welsh service unsurpassed by none.

Ol' "Broken Tip" will have the utmost care and attention and ....

sorry about that, this is Spud's nurse here. I've just administered more medication and Spud should remain calm for a couple of hours.
I too can offer first rate accommodation for said guitar.

Hey - is it that monster cable with the little expansion springs on the side of the shaft? If so, don't use it anymore either way. A couple of years ago, Jon (our lead EBMM repair engineer) told us that those springs weren't good for the JP sockets given the switching mechanisms built into them....just thought I'd pass it on.

thanks for the 'tips' :p

nah, the cable doesn't have any expansion springs.. just a regular looking cable.

oh.. and i think there's life in her yet... not quite ready for the retirement home at this stage...

I had a cable tip get stuck in my 20th Ann. Silo jack. Had to replace the jack. EBMM were great about sending me a new jack. I actually received the wrong jack first. Then, a quick e-mail got me the correct one. I sent back the old jack and the "broken" one, and they sent me a couple of T-shirts. Way cool! :D

EBMM will be great about helping you here if your dealer can't.

All I can say is, those Monster cables don't break easy (at all)!!!!!
In fact I've "towed" things with em'. That tip didn't just fall off, not saying you purposely abused it. It's an easy extraction though.

However, some of the tips on some of the previous angled "rock instrument cables", appeared to be to large for some inputs. And, you'd have to somewhat crank it out and force it in etc. . . I don't think a design flaw, but never the less not compatible with some.

The GC seemed to be aware of it. Contact Monster in Burlingame, they'll want to know how it happened and probably send you a new cable!!:)

i'm mr gentle with the JP6 :) honest!

i think it's just dodgy manufacturing of the cable... heck, i recall a time when my dad bought a new car... on the second day of ownership the entire fan belt assembly fell off onto the road. GOOD ONE! Apparently it wasn't even bolted on hehe... a monday car me thinks.

Call me tomorrow and arrange a time to bring it up here. I'll have it out in 2 minutes if not seconds. Otherwise, you need to stand the guitar up with the jack facing down, rub buddhas belly for some good luck, get some hand/eye coordination and grab one of these

Basically you need a very thin tool to insert into the jack and relieve the tension of the TRS contact points and let the tip drop out.

I was trying to "forget" about Sydney in 93'!!!!! You had to remind me.

And, the DeLorean, well, that's another story. Let me just say this, I have enough razor blades to last me a lifetime!

monster cables are just too fat apparently

An update for anyone who cares :)

The guitar tech guy pulled the tip of the plug out of the jack *hooray*

He also mentioned that monster cables are slightly too large for standard guitar inputs  ... apparently it's a known issue and the tips get stuck more often than you'd think.

Anyway, I'm not using those cables anymore...

Congrats, and thanks for the heads up on Monster.

I've been really happy with Mogami Gold cables; not a hiccup in 5 years, and super transparent.

I gave my old cables away at the rehearsal following getting my new Mogamis; the difference was that obvious.
