As someone that recently started playing EBMM basses again (yesterday!) after selling my old SR5, Bongo 5 and SUB 4 in the last few years, I must say how impressed I am with my brand new 2007LE Stingray.:)

I have been gigging mostly with both a Sadowsky NYC Jazz 4 and a 1974 Fender P with my cover band. I flip between basses at least 6 times a night as a P can't do funk, heavy slap and some of the newer tunes as well as a Jazz and a Jazz doesn't do reggae and '60s/'70s rock and blues as well as a Precision. This switching is a pain in the a$$.

Anyways, the band did a full volume rehearsal this afternoon with the new SR (single H, maple neck) and the band and I were blown away. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Fenders and my Sadowskys but for a bassist that plays RHCP, Led Zep, Foo Fighters, Bob Marley, The Stones, ZZ Top, Sublime, Doobie Brothers, Police, etc, etc, etc., in the same set, a SR is about as versitile a bass as I have played. It nails all the tones I need. My guitard said it best "amazing articulation and tonal range". I could hear every note from open E to wayyyyy up the neck on my G string.

So... will I be selling ALL of my non-EBMM basses? No (a few Fenders will go though). Will I be posting a pic of me playing the SR LE after my next gig? Yup!:D

Great workmanship too! Even the case rocks...

Nice bass! It's a great looking sparkle too, maybe second to autumn redburst.

Interesting that you say a P can't do funk. I think it's a great sound for funk. Even a Jazz-style bass is good for funk, depending on the sound you're hearing. Of course, the StingRay will do it well too.

Let me clarify..... Most of the funk I play involves slapping. A Precision is great IMO for funk like Stevie Wonder's I Wish as an example, but not Play that Funky Music or Brick House.

Also, a Jazz can be better than a SR in certain cases for slapping, but the SR is just so good across the board. The versatility is amazing.

Nice bass :D

To me a good slap sound is all in the EQ although some basses are better suited physically than others for this technique. The SR4H, with all that real estate between the neck and the pup is a good platform for slap happy funkiness :)

"The Stingray is a slap machine!"

I wish I'd known that before I became so wrongheaded about things. I play the damned things FINGERSTYLE.

No you are wrong...The stingray is a one trick pony...isnt that what the internet bass fan sites say?

The Stingray is one bass that I honestly don't hear being called a one trick pony as much as say a Fender P or a Gibson (name one). Most bassists respect the SR even if they don't play/like them.

Although the Bongo/toilet seat references are still running rampant.:) It WAS funny 2 years ago thought..... but yeah we get it......

Yeah, when I first saw your original post I was thinking, "Oh yeah? Don't tell Rocco Prestia that a Precision's not good for funk".

True, he plays Conklin now, but still ... :)

Precision = fantasic for fingerstyle

stingray = fantastic for fingerstyle and slap

But I only really use my precision in my funk band. Don't know why.
