Notice how I said "first Bongo"? haha

The proof:

The story goes like this: I'm in California doing two shows with my cover band. We have some free time during the day so we head over to Guitar Center in Murieta. As soon as I walk in I'm face to face with two Bongo HH 4-strings (one black, one burgundy) at an unbelievable price. I ask what's up, I'm told the basses are new but have been sitting around the store for a long time, so they're clearing them out cheap and "as-is" (no returns). I plugged in the black one, it played amazing, so now it's mine.

It's got a few dings on the headstock and a tiny paint chip on the lower body, but it doesn't bother me. All the good stuff I've heard about these basses is true - amazing acoustic sustain even before plugging in, then once you plug in you basically have every tone you could ask for with the 4-band EQ and pickup blend. The thing sits so nice on me with a strap, it's so darn comfortable to play. I'm looking forward to spending more time with it to get used to all my tonal options. I'm seriously pondering a pickguard change, I think black pearl would look pretty swell.

The only bad thing is that I need to sell my honeyburst Sterling pay for it. In the next few days I'll have a post up in the "for sale" thread with the details. Not too big a deal since I still have my Sterling HS and a Sterling 5 HH on the way.

I never thought I'd get a Bongo but I guess I was wrong!

That's funny, I bought the bass yesterday! We must have just missed each other. I didn't even play the Burgundy one, how's that one sound? It's a pretty nice GC you have there, the people were really nice, and there was a bunch of EB stock there. The girl at the front gretting people was a looker, too.

I've played the Markbass stuff but not with the Bongo. So far Markbass isn't my thing, but who knows what the future holds.

A guitar shop with a door girl? The last place I went to that had a looker at the door greeting people was in Jakarta, but they certainly weren't selling guitars. Well, they might have been, but none of the staff ever offered to sell me a guitar at the end of my massage.

I was there @ around noon.

Yeah that GC is nice. And most of the girls working the turnstile look good.
A guy named Jose runs the bass section and he keeps it tidy when there is a lull.

Yup, Jose was my guy. Real helpful. Helped me walk out with the bass, a case (the original case for my bass w/ case candy), some strings and some wonder wipes.

A strange Guitar Center phenomemon, Mark. They check your receipt on the way out the door. Looks-wise, they are all over the board, but generally pretty nice looking.

Instead of handing out those Gibson calendars, they should have some Guitar Center Door Girl calendars made up

I dunno. Just put down a deposit on this Bongo 4 HS at Chuck Levin's in Washington. Limited edition radiance red. Plenty bongo there. (Won't get back from overseas for another 2 months, but didn't want any of you animals snagging it). Limited Edition radiance red. :)

Got my "first"one last week! I "was" a die-hard Lakland fan, that was until now that is!! I love it, my band loves it. You can go from soft to aggresive without touching an amp setting and no pedals !!!
