Well I gave it one last chance today with an A/B against the Not Bongo and seriously, it doesn't compare nor come close to the Blue wonder when it comes to playability and output (tone is subjective so I left it out). I was struggling to get volume and response out of the Rick while the SR seems to play itself.

The bottom line for me here is that the Musicman electronics package captures all the nuances and dynamics of my playing (it also torments me about my poor technique at times). It just brings out the sound so effortlessly. I play light and it responds gently. I hit it hard and I wake up the beast!

Bye bye Rick.

...sorry. But your suffering and subsequent posting have spared the broken hearts of untold others who would otherwise pre-order, wait endless non-playing months, and probably reach the same conclusion.

I had a '74 Rickenbacker that I sold last year. It looked cool as hell, but the damn input jacks kept going out. I had it repaired three times, but the problem kept coming back. I sold it and immediately bought a Stingray. No problems with the 'Ray once I got it adjusted the way I like it.

The only regret about selling the Ric was not getting more $ for it. I thought that since I couldn't repair it that I should offer it for less. Hindsight being 20-20 I should have asked for more.

I sold my Ric for my latest SR5, it finished out the "every bass I must own before I die" list, was a cool bass, but not very user friendly on setup especially that cursed bridge. I love PU covers, especially on a P, but the one on the Ric in combination with the big bridge mute was just to much space consumption for my right hand. It was a beautiful instrument though, and very unique sounding, but not something Id want to play live with. I do wish I would have waited about 3 more months before selling it as the new ones jumped in price by a couple a hundred bucks!!

I'll bet that Ric had a ton of growl...

To me growl is that very low purr that one can sort of cop if one tries to sing the lowest note they possibly can. It's like a gurgling sound coming from the throat.

IME, the basses that deliver this sound very well are the Stingray (ESPECIALLY with brand new strings), Warwick, Spector and Jazz. Not suprisingly I like the Wicks and Spectors also because they have that Stingray vibe I hear in my head.
