Halp! (JP7 Pickups problem)

My bridge pickup on my JP7 is magnetic, I realise it's meant to be, but it's actually too magnetic, if that makes sense. Resting your hand on the low B while plugged in results in a thud as the string momentarily attaches to the pickup, I'm assuming this isn't normal!

Any insights?

did you adjust the pickups and make them higher, or does your hand lay heavy on the strings? Are you down tuned and causing too much slack on the strings. It doesn't seem like a normal thing to happen. hmmm.

Did you change your pickup height ?
Perhaps your bridge pickup is a bit too high.

I do tune down a tone. Are you suggesting that it is normal for the pickups to be so magnetic? It really does make a thud when the string touches the pickup I've never noticed the problem with previous guitars, I was thinking there might be a wiring problem of some kind, but I don't really know much about pickups.

I'd recommend going up to a heavier gauge string if you are tuning down from concert pitch. Do you tune down a full step?

Absolutely... pickups are essentially magnets with copper wire wrapped around them.

It really does make a thud when the string touches the pickup I've never noticed the problem with previous guitars.

The JP7 has extremely low action fresh out of the box so the clearance from the pickup to the strings are going to typically be lower or different than other guitars.

By tone do you mean 1/2 step? The JP pups are not that close to the strings, but if you are resting your palm on the stringd you will push them closer to the pickup and they will be attracted due to the magnetic field.

By a tone I mean a step, i.e. two semitones. To A. I might have a look at getting some heavier gauge bottom strings.
Any recommendations for ADADGBE tuning?

Ok, if you are tuning down a whole step, I could see why you are having issues. Your strings must feel like rubber bands! I highly recommend moving up to 10's if not 11's.

any pickup will thud if you push the strings down and they make contact with the pickup's pole pieces.

Like the guys said - this isn't a wiring issue... the above solutions would be my approach as well

Ok thanks everyone, I'll see about upping the gauge for the 1st and 2nd strings atleast.
