Silent Circuit'ed my Y2D!

Well tonight I re-wired my Y2D and put in a Silent Circuit, 9V battery and new output jack (so the battery's off when the plug is pulled).

The single coil is now substantially quieter. Also the tone control on this guitar is wired to split the bridge humbucker as you dial it back. The Silent Circuit is wired to that too, so it's noise-free all the way from humbucking mode to single coil mode.

I love the split bridge and single in this guitar (and the Morse) but always found them too noisy. (I like a good crunch tone and the hum gets pretty loud). But this kills most of the noise and I think I'm pretty happy with 'er

Very interesting mod! Wait until Tommy sees this You are right about the bridge bucker getting noisy when split - I've done that mod on mine using the tone control and I usually switch to position 2 when split to avoid the hum.

No pics of the operation- but that's a good idea. I'll take some tonight. Basically, everything fits in the control cavity including the battery, so I didn't need to route for it. I'll eventually do it in my Morse too, but that already has a 9V battery box.

No clips yet. I've been recording so most of my gear is elsewhere at the moment. I'll make some soon. But basically, there's almost no hum from the split bridge bucker, and just a little hum from the single coil.

i got a silent circuit around here somewhere. i snagged it & 3 silo single coils off ebay a while back..........but never got around to installing it yet.
i installed a coil splitter in a couple of my morse geetars too. that rear hummer REALLY lends itself to this mod. a very tele like tone. i use it ALOT. i'm usually playin pretty clean when i use the rear hummer split........so noise isn't a huge issue w/ me. but i am gonna put the silent circuit in someday sooner than later to check it out.

p.s.
the neck hummer sounds REALLY good split too .
i think the morse hummers are the only slit hummers i EVER heard that sound really good split. it's because they are wound so hot. even split they have a normal typical single coil output & i've heard ALOT of pickups back in my days at the retail bench.

the most amazing things from EB are the tremolo systems, piezo, and silent circuit system.
should offer them as aftermarket

I understand why they don't want to sell those proprietary parts separately, it's one of the reasons you buy a MM guitar.

That said, I love to watch eBay and Craigslist for spare parts. I've got all sorts of bits lying around that are waiting for the right projects.
