I bought this one at a Guitar Center in Chicago that has a iron clad return policy, so you won't hurt my feelings if you think it's fake. I think it's fake actually and am going to return it.
Serial #86508, confirmed with Dan that "this lovely Trans Gold EVH was completed on 11/18/94 and was shipped to GC #332 in Arlington Heights, IL." Cool, right?
The guitar didn't feel right when I picked it up - turns out the guitar weighs about 3 pounds less than my others. I took it apart and discovered it has been completely rewired. Pickups are Dimarzio's, but not like in my other EVH's - these are production models and look new. The neck looks legit, but dated in August, 1995 - almost a year after Dan said the guitar was completed and shipped The body lacks the dime-sized hole under the neck plate and the neck marking is some a-holes' drawing of a duck with a top-hat. No kidding. To get it to set up correctly, the guitar has a large shim the whole size of the neck pocket.
I think it's an original EVH plate and neck, and a home made or Axis EX body. Your thoughts?
