since i use a FRFR system w/axe fx i tweaked a special piezo batch w/o cabsim but stereoenhancer and some goodies. it sounds big through PA and even through my dB monitoring.
absolutely stunning. if i wouldnt need a 12 string sometimes i woudlnt bring my boat (acoustic) with me anymore.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really don't like the sound of piezos - especially with light strings, they underwhelm me. To me they're too shrill, sound synthetic and have an attack that is way too intense. In short: they sound nothing like an acoustic guitar to me and I much prefer the compromise of using electric PUs for my cleans, to what piezos offer.

Cheers

I actually use a Yamaha AG stomp as a direct box sometimes. It has a mic modeler and acoustic guitar modeler. Can make it sound like a Martin or Gibson or resonator or more.with comp/rev/delay etc... It has it's place too, when I carry alot around.
Direct into powered wedge is so simple, but effective.

my god the EB piezo sounds just superb through a good PA, forget the amp! unless you have a AER of course!

I haven't tried an AER yet, but I think I know where one is if it hasn't been sold yet. I have tried a Schertler, however. Man, that thing was incredible!

I will know the glory of a piezo when my BFR JP6 comes in!!! Can't wait...

So, the concensous is that it sounds better out of a PA than an acoustic amp? I'd like to be able to use an acoustic amp at home, but not break the bank getting one...

I'm a firm believer and a big fan of the EB piezo system.
If you want a guitar to sound 100% acoustic then an acoustic guitar should be used (along with all the inherrant problems of miking up/feedback etc).

I think light strings will have an effect on any guitar magnetic or piezo and light strings would I suppose sound a bit tinny.
The Piezo comes nicely set up from the factory but tweeking it just dials it in nice.

Electric cleans and piezo cleans are worlds apart but if you prefer the mag cleans - good on you. I just love the extra versatility that the Piezo gives and I love watching people crane their necks looking in disbelief at the "acoustic" sound coming out of my guitar.

It's not just a one trick pony either - I've played the piezo through a 60's valve amp - 8 watts and the sound was instant Billy Gibbons.

So I'm not flaming you for your opinions but just sticking up for the piezo.

Oh and yeah - through the AER is wundabar!!

my piezo came from factory with everything set at maximum (mix, bass and treble).. and my piezo system dont sound so incredible anymore.. the E and A piezo saddles are faulty.. distorting really badly and causing ALOT of noise... D,G,B and e strings are all fine.. they just decided to die in the middle of rehearsals this morning... was using the piezo and mags blended and it sounded super amazing, then bam.. lots of noise.. tried different DI boxes and leads, and new battery then cam to the horrible realisation that it was indeed my 1 week old guitar that was at fault...
but our band played the full set no worries, still loving playing the JP6 live, is such a dream to play.. just really wanted that piezo/mag blended sound for one of the songs.. ohwell, the middle p/u position was the solution :) nice single coil(ish) sound.
will be heading to where i got it from this week to get something sorted out. :) so looks like ill be without the piezo for a little bit..
