Neck sizes

I am new to EB guitars and the forum, I see alot of styles I like but all of the necks seem to be so thin. Is this just the nature of EB guitars in general or are there some larger necked models I am missing?

Any help would be appreciated...I want to buy one but I just cannot get comfortable with small necks.

The AL is probably the thickest neck, what do you reckon guys? Not that its fat by any means.

I thought the same, until I actually spent some time with my Sub. There's nothing like a MM neck

That is probably the only one I have not played, well not the only one but I have played the common models; Silo, Morse, Axis...etc etc the one I really disliked was the Petrucci...to my ears it sounded terrible and the neck felt about as think as a sheet of paper! It really felt very shall I say dainty...

Again, I do not want to be blasted here...I come from the school of fat necks and fat frets...

Different strokes for different folks, man! EBMM makes a great guitar, but they're definitely not going to please everybody.. which is why there are many other great makers of fine instruments with God given talent just like the fine folks at Ernie Ball/Music Man! Although, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a company with better customer service which, in my opinion, would make getting used to a neck you're not familiar with totally worth it!

Give the Albert Lee a try and let us know what you think.

You are right, I have had my fair share of guitars but never an EBMM. For the longest time I would just buy bodies and necks and finsih them out the way I wanted them, it was a labor of love but I just got tired of huffing the Nitro paint!!! They say it is really bad for you!

I shopped around and was really drawn to the overall design and build quality of the EBMMs...I will keep searching eventually one wil jump out and bite me!

To each their own. I'd own a Robert Cray Strat, if not for the fat neck and inaccessible truss adjustment.

Today I played a Luke and JP6 for the first time, and they are both outstanding guitars! The JP's neck was really thin, which totally ruled, but the Luke's neck was noticeably thicker. I preferred the JP's neck. I've played Axis Super Sports before, and I don't remember exactly how thick the necks were, but I can tell you that they were different from the Luke and JP6.

I own some guitars which are not compareable and I learned, that you get used to every model and its own quirks if you try/play it some time. be patient!

In short YES! I like a wider fatter neck, let me give you an idea...I have a 1959 Les Paul custom shop RI HUGE NECK and I also have a Wolfgang smaller yet wide enough and has plenty of girth, this is a very comfortable guitar.

When I played the JP6, Morse and Silo they all felt very thin but to various degress. The JP6 was the thinest and not comfortable at all...

I am on the look out for an AL, that seems to be the general consensus around here on having the biggest neck.

I guess that is where the shape of the back of the neck and the radius comes into play - I had a Wolfgang back in 1999, and it's neck was the same width as all EBMMs except the Petrucci - i.e. 1 5/8" wide. However, it is a bit deeper and has a 15" radius compared to the Silo's 10" radius and the Morse's 12" radius. The JP is, as others have said, the wider/thinner neck among the EBMMs.

I had an Albert Lee for a while - sandwiched in between two Silo Specials. The Albert isn't a big neck by any stretch of the imagination, but it probably does have the most depth.

Someone posted a cross section of the Al recently.
If you put out a request one of the ALOC will definately remember where it was.
That might help you narrow the choice down.
