75% player, 25% gearhead.

Probably less gearhead than that, but not zero.

I was watching a video of my band from a few years ago. I had the same guitar, but an entirely different amp/effects system. I couldn't help but notice that I sounded pretty much the same as I do now with all new gear. I'm just a few $k poorer..

i have a need and then i research to fiill it. ive got too many things it seems like but my needs change or i grow (call it what you want) so some stuff gets used more than others. its strange but in this society the product usually comes before the "need." i have guitars for different tunings/styles (3 of them soon to be 5:)) and a mark iv but im buying an epiphone valve jr. buy stuff to do what you want no more....k, off the soapbox

50/50 I just love to play, but am sort of a gear slut too. Like above, I make informed purchases based on what I need to fill a tone or style.

Great thread!

I'd say 50/50 for me... I play MOST of the guitars I own, because they're mostly different tones, and all are useable in what I play. But I also do like to buy a guitar simply because it strikes my eyes... Most of my guitars aren't stock, and I change all the pickups on many of them. All my strats are modified with treble bleed circuits, but I keep everything for posterity's sake. And this quest in finding the one guitar is making buying many guitars a lot of fun.

I have a feeling that a nice SS would be the perfect guitar for me though... heh... But lemme go mod my 20th with new pups first and I'll tell you... heheh...

100% player / 0% gearhead, but only at the moment because I unfortunately don't own an amplifier. :(

dude... you have 3 electrics and one acoustic... Most people I've met with 100% player and 0% gearhead tendancies would mainly have just that one guitar (at the most one other backup), but would simply play the hell out of it. heh...

Interesting idea. I voted 75% player, 25% gearhead for myself.
I am interested in gear and all that stuff, but I love playing the instrument a lot, and that's why I'm here.

I'm definintely 100% player. I have an Axis and a JP 6. The JP is my main axe. I've used the Axis once at a rehearsal since I got the JP. Other than that it has hung on the wall in my studio. I still love it, just not as much as the JP. I also have a Yamaha acoustic

I've never seen the purpose in collecting a bunch of guitars. I know no matter how many guitars I collect, I'm going to play my favorite 90% of the time anyway. However, if I ever get another regular blues gig, I'll be ordering up a new AL.

I answered 75% Player, 25% Gearhead, but actually I'm probably more like 90% Player, 10% Gearhead.

I don't know a lot about gear. Guitars more than anything...and I never really had much G.A.S. until I discovered this forum.

EBMM made me 65% more G.A.S.sy.

50/50 for me. I like to try a million things but once I've found "the one", i tend to stick with it. A good example is my amp search. I played (and in some instances owned) a bunch of different amps from various makers, but when I was introduced to Egnater (through a serendipitous visit by roburado to Bruce Egnater's shop) it was all over. Same is true for finding EBMM... bought the #1 online, site unseen and you can see the results.

great thread! i went with 50/50
when i was in HS and college I was 100% a player. I had 1 guitar and 1 bass - both starter models - and played all the time and made great & steady progress. i my progress has stunted since then. maybe its the damn job thing...

This is me to a "T"...crappy starter guitar (Strat Copy) and a Fender bass that belonged to my guitar teacher. I played all the time...it's all I ever wanted to do.

Once I got married (twice), got a real job and started punching out the kids...I just didn't have time to "play" any more.

Now, the problems with RSI are becoming severe and it *HURT* like hell play so I play even less than before. This is going to be corrected very soon!

I voted 75g/25p but it's actually closer than that...

You know what though? It's still all I want to do...play the damn guitar!

I play every day. At least 45-60 minutes. And I write my own stuff with and aspiration to record it. Still, I love gear. I'm calling myself 50/50.

25/75... I'm a gear whore. I think I've finally settled on my guitar of choice, now I just need to find the amp. Hopefully I'll know in about 16 weeks when my Egnater is ready.

Wow! Fred, that's cool. I'd love to hear what you have to say about the Egnater. What did you get? Mod 50? What modules?

Rob, I went with the Mod50 and the T/D and EG5 modules. I plan on ordering the Bman and SL2 modules after the fact, and might pick up the VX and Erect down the road.

I'm stoked to get this thing in, it looks like a really cool amp and the clips I've heard sound great.
