Hey f-mites,
I am posting this from my home because I wanted to share an organization that is dear to my heart. I also wanted to help out a friend that is incredibly involved in this organization ... shout out to Barbara Gorin! The nizzzation is called Guitars Not Guns. Now, I know what some of you hillbillies are thinking ... well there ain't nuthin wrong with my gun rack in the reaer window of my Chevy Z71! Don't let the name fool you. It is a non-profit organization that teaches music, provides music and uses music as an outlet to foster kids and children at risk. :D They're looking to stop violence in the schools and on the streets. Call it mentorship if you will .. but the bottom line is that they're giving kids and teens an outlet .... TO ROCK!!

The organization is the main thing I wanted to spread the word about. They have chapters in several states across the country and even have a chapter in Canada for you kanuckleheads.
Also, FYI .. they are trying to raise money by auctioning off this sick guitar on Ebay. The auction will start April 1st and last for 1 month. No, it is not an EBMM .. sorry for the "other brand" promoting. It is not my intention. I'm just trying to spread the word, create hype, and help an amazing cause.

Check out Guitars Not Guns
Or .. Myspizzzle

For anyone that's interested in the auction and this sick guitar .... PM me!!

As one of those rednecks with a gun rack in the back of my Z71 (actually, mine's the kind that hangs on the back of the seats, crazy to leave anything in plain view thiese days. ;) ), I've got to say this looks like a very cool organization. Thanks for sharing.

They'll have to pry them both from my cold, dead fingers. ;)

I'm for helping kids, but I don't have to like the name.

Pry your balls from your cold dead fingers, right?

Thanks for the links Jodi. Even added them to myspace friends an' all!

I think the world would be better place if there was one musical instrument for every home instead of one gun. Except where tambourines are concerned. I hate tambourines. People who like them should be shot. :)

BTW, did anybody else notice that guitarsnotguns.org looks a bit like "guitar snot guns", or was it just me?

Guitars Not Guns says THANK YOU!!! From Barbara Gorin VP Fundraising Guitars Not Guns

Jodi! You are the best! Thank you SOOOO MUCH for helping spread the word about our program and about our upcoming auction! The auction will actually begin on Ebay on April 21. (We had to change the date). Everyone's support is great! And to reiterate, we are not against guns, just kids with guns - especially in schools! Jodi and Ernie Ball has been an awesome support - and without support such as theirs, it would be difficult to run this program. We are all 100% volunteers and Guitars Not Guns runs on donations, grants, and volunteers! Please check out the website and we also accept paypal donations!

ALSO: If you want to help add to our I-IV-V list of songs, please check out myspace.com/guitarsnotgunsca - It's amazing when we teach the kids how to play the basic chords and how their faces light up when they realize they can play AC/DC and Zepplin! This kids want to ROCK !! Remember: Rock it Don't Cock It! :)

My basses are my most important worldly possessions but if someone breaks in my house, my StingRay 5s can't do the job like my Mossberg 500.

I'm just sayin. :p

Why not guitars, not drugs, alcohol, or crack?

JD,

Thanks !! Sounds like a great work!! Music is a excellent alternative to the "other" activities in our society. I'm glad people are out there putting forth effort.

I know this thread isn't about anything other than the positive work you described, but I just need to say that I just wish the "name" was a little different,(therein lies the problem, not guns).:)

That's it. This has nothing whatsoever to do with any discussion on the pros or cons of gun ownership but on the universally understood and acknowledged benefits of guitar ownership. Can we please not turn this into a thread that would be more at home over in Moe's Tavern on the Fender Forum (even if only to humour me) and just focus on kids and guitars?

Now, lets tell everyone about it and try to get them even more support!

wow babe this is awesome... can you tell us a bit more about how it works on a community level? the tutors obviously donate their time? do they do one on one or group teaching? how do the kids find out about it? through school? etc etc...tell me all about it!

Thank you!!! I totally do not want this thread to go south. The point of the cause is to help kids that are less fortunate. Lets just talk about them, or about music, or about volunteering ..
I appreciate all of you who have taken the time to read about this organization.

Looks like a great charity, Jodi!

I think this is a wonderful thing and deserving of support!

Too many kids these days fall through the cracks and end up in trouble.

This can only help!

Good job!

Ritchie

P.S. I would like to state for the record that, although I do own a gun, I am nothing even remotely resembling a hillbilly!:D
