Hello all, I'm looking at a Left Handed ASS on e-bay, apparently made in 2002 according to the seller. It's orange and has a black headstock. Is it some kind of limited edition? Were black headstocks a standard feature back in the days?

Do you have a link? It's probably not orange. It's a color called Radiance Red which was a Limited Edition color. Can't remember what year. And yes these LE's had black headstocks. EBMM brought the color back and is now available (without the black headstock, though). In some photos the color does look orange. If it's a good price and in good shape, I'd grab it. Very cool color. The guitar in the case really does come off as looking orange.

I have seen this one and I think the neck is probably not the original one

The black headstock appears only on 2004 limitd edition with the Radiance Red color

Just found the link. Definately not Radiance Red. I would agree with threeminutesboy. Doesn't seem to be original neck. Unless it was painted over and decals applied. Plus it has a black nut on maple board, which is something I've never seen from EBMM.

The made in SLO decal seems to be there. It's very faint.

Thank you guys, lots of good information there. The link is Left Hand Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Super Sport Lefty - eBay (item 280211141483 end time Mar-28-08 19:15:00 PDT)

3MinutesBoy, now that you mention it, I can't see the 'Made In SLO' inscripiton at the back of the neck...

Now here's the question: is that a show stopper or is that not? I mean the price is pretty decent...

To me it's just a mater of taste the guitar is probly as good as any other EBMM

Keep in mind Clapton's Blackie was made with 3 Strats. If you like it Go for it :p

You guys rock ! Thanks for all the information.

I do believe the guitar is legit, and I'm going to think about it. It's a sweet looking axe !

The owner probably wasn't the original owner. It's a 2002, bought in 2004. I'd just send the owner a ebay message and see if he knows anything about the headstock/neck.
