I use an SWR Combo amp 15" speaker but just purchased a Peavey 210 cab to go under it to add some punch to the 15. I've heard this is a good combination but see more and more players using 10's only in different stack configurations such as 210, 410, 610 and 810.

Are these 10 configurations becoming more the norm or just a fad or craze if you will?..

and post you may be using at this time and how it's working for you.....

Thanks.......... :D

I am currently using 2 set ups: 4x12 and 4x10 - I think more are going to the 10s for 2 factors: weight and clarity. Other things that are also factoiring in are the availability of solid 10 cabs and price.

I have never been a big 15 fan (and I have owned a ton of them) but I would love to see a Neo 18 cab. 10s are cool... I love my 12s, but there is nothing like an 18 moving air under what you are playing!

I agree with Ritch and I own more 10'' cabinets than anything else, but this thing is a lot of fun right now...

I've been a fan of "tens for bass" since the late eighties, almost since the beginning of my bass playing days. My experience with those old Fender 2x15" cabs w/ silverface 100w Bassman heads forced me to love the power and punch of the big 'ol SVT.

Recently, I recently purchased an Ampeg BA-115 combo (ported 1x15+H @ 100w) because I needed something smaller than a 4x10 cab, and I think it sounds just fine on it's own. Much better than the above mentioned Fender cabs of yore, but not punchy like 10's; Just lots of volume with spare headroom, which was something I quit looking for in a 15" ages ago.

I'm all about the 15's...especially multiple 15's.
Mesa perfected the 2x15 cab. extremely punchy, very explosive and loud!

I'm using a 2 x 10 and a 2 x 12 ... a very good combination. If I was going to shuffle the deck, I might consider keeping my 2 x 10 and putting a 1 x 18 underneath - I like the thunder.

I primarily use 10's only, but really like my Boogie Scout 1x12 too

I own two Ampeg 2x10 cabs and an Ampeg 1x15. I mix and match but I find that smaller gigs and gigs with FOH support only require a single 2x10.

If I play an outdoor gig or a large venue with no PA support, I will add the 1x15 or use all three cabs.

I like the punch I get from the 10's. My ideal rig would likely be a 4x10 and a 1x18 but I can't be bothered lugging around heavy gear.

WOW!...

Lots of great combinations here. I always believed that 12's were 6 string guitar speakers....I guess not.

Seems 10's are the most popular. I'll try the 15 and 210 cab and with my Bongo and see if that works for me. I've been wanting to get rid of the SWR Amp and get something else. I used it for 5 years and it's never went down, thank God. We play to a congregation of 150 to 200 tops, unless we play another church which we do from time to time, then the numbers can climb quickly.

Maybes there is an SVT and a 410 cab in my future........:D

For some time I ran an SWR 1x15 in combination with an SWR 2x10, and to be honest, the 15" was superfluous. I sold it and replaced it with a second 2x10 and the 15" hasn't been missed. My main rig when I need to push a lot of air is an SWR 8x8. 8's and 10's are where it's at for bass as far as I'm concerned.

4x10 and a 1x15, best of both imho...
+1

Holds the low end and the high end

I played around with a few combinations over the past year and a half when I decided to ditch some very heavy speakers and move to Neo based cabinets...

Started with a 2x10 that blew me away, especially when compared to my former brand's 4x10 cabinet - lesson learned, the brand really does matter!

Added a 1x12 cabinet for some bottom (or so I thought).

Swapped the 1x12 for a 2x12... Didn't like it, couldn't get my punchy sound back without a lot of amp twiddling.

Swapped the 2x12 for a 4x10 - Loving it! I will not stray again!

And having both the 2x10 and 4x10 cabinets provide great flexibility, from the smallest room to the outdoor party.

At one time I was drawn to the 4x10 on a 1x15 set-up but after fussing one too many times in the rehearsal studio I found my sound by unplugging the 1x15 cabinet.

That's my story - yours may be very different, but hopefully it will end similarly with you finding your ideal set-up! :)
