I’d just like to say thanks to all you AL guitar players that rant and rave about what a great guitar this really is.

I’ve played my SMs exclusively for the last 5 years and was about to order another Y2D (these guitars are simply the most comfortable/versatile I have ever played so why try anything else?). After reading all the comments in here about the AL and MM90/piezo combination I thought, “What the hell I’ll give one a shot!” Well, it arrived here last week.

Test #1 (after covering “Stevo1’s” headstock- so he didn’t know there was a new kid in town!) Was I going to like the Black Cherry Burst finish? Open case….ahhh, better than any picture. The pick guard was a perfect choice too!

Test #2 The neck. A little worried since I don’t usually like a maple fretboard….what the..?! Felt different than, but as comfortable as “Stevo1 and 2”! Excellent!

Test #3 Tone. Off to my gig that night. This is really where I was blown away. Clean, distortion, neck/bridge p.u. and anywhere in between, it didn’t matter. The AL sounded fantastic with any combination! I quite often have to play with my tone knob to find what I like when using a single coil bridge p.u., I didn’t have to touch this one once! Sustain? I think the E7(#9) from the last tune was still ringing when I got home and opened the case!

Test #4 Piezo pick up. Still at the club, telling a very skeptical sound tech (a staunch acoustic playing ‘toneist’) that I’d like to run the piezo through my acoustic amp and DI to the mains. I could tell by the look on his face that he figured it would sound like a banjo plugged into a wasp’s nest. I didn’t know what to expect. At the end of the first set he came back and gasped “How do they [EBMM] do that?! It sounds amazing!!?”…case closed and test complete.

Replace “Stevo1/2” on stage? Well…I don’t think so. Different tools. Use half the night to share some of the duty? Absolutely! I think “Stevo” and “Bert” will get along just fine.

Thanks again AL players, and sincere thanks to EBMM for making these incredible guitars.

This is a pathetic cel phone picture but the best I can do for now.

i only ever got to try a pink burst single coils one from the 90's i was set to buy it... went in the shop with my money and it had gone 20 minutes prior..

Hey Kenny...what's the deal? A morse player for 5 years and you only joined this forum ONE year ago?

And only 11 posts since then. ;)

Yup, Keith, I'll admit to being a chump there. I lurked around when I got my first Morse then never seemed to have time. Got the second one and finally joined after lurking some more and seeing what a great community it was. I'm going to try to take the time to hang out here some more. Problem is, my one word/minute typing skills tend to make my posts a real event!

And you probably know we have some real longtime fans of Steve's here.
Nice that he's been associated with this company for so long.
I don't think it's coincidence that Luke, Albert, Morse, etc are all such good guys in addition to being great players.

Same with the forum. This company seems to not only build quality...but to attract it as well.

it all starts by coming to the EBMM campground here. sittin' by the fire, listening to some stories. Pretty soon you want an AL, then you buy one, then they'll have to pry it out of your cold, dead hand.
amazing cool guitar. and you can spot one a mile away.

I see that the CIC of the ALOC has already welcomed you to the fold.

As S.A.A. of the ALOC (especially the Order of the BCB ) I have to make sure that the BCB receives full visual recognition!

So, unless you get better pictures than that posted, please meet me at the Inner Sanctum of the ALOC and I'll get you into shape !!

Seriously though - that's a great write up on the AL, especially from someone who has been so used to playing other Balls.

I remember (yes there was a time!) when Robelinda2 was AL - less and played a whole assortment of EB's - look at him now !!!

So if anybody out there wants a guitar that will do just about everything and you are unsure about the AL read the first post again - and I can vouch for every word of it
Spud SAA ALOC - 37 years playing guitar - and still sucks ha!

Agreed!

What I just don't get, is why I don't see them more often here in Western Canada. I'm hoping we can change that. I do a lot of traveling and have never seen one hanging in a music store. The first time I'd ever played an AL (or seen one in person for that matter) was when it arrived at my door.

The AL and SM models, due to their versatility, are a freelance guitar players dream. I don't have to sit back before a gig anymore and think "Oh, this is a 'country' gig, I better take that guitar" or "This is a 'rock' gig, better use this one". I've used my SMs for everything from a gig with Bo Diddley to a tux wearin' Petula Clark gig to a Miles Davis tribute gig. I let John Rich (Big & Rich guy) use it for a few tunes at a club I was playing at a while back, other than looking a little perplexed by the "45" pick ups on it, it worked great for him ("nice guitar, man"). I've only had my AL for a week but already know it's going to be a versatility machine.

Yup, they'd have to pry BOTH models out of my "cold, dead hands"!

Hi Spud!

Yes, that’s a brutal picture of the AL (not a bad one of the rug in my studio though that oddly, almost matches the pick guard). I’ll get on some new pictures shortly.

My suggestion is, for us newcomers to the “ALOC”, that an anachronism thread be posted to define some of these terms. CIC?, BCB?, SAA?, GAS?,… B.T.O?, E.L.P?, E.L.O?……:D
