Ok now my 2cts on top:

Do you have any screen, computer or anything in the room you´re playing? Turn it all off.
The noise near the amp is normal and I think the hum you describe is the normal little hum EMGs have, if it´s the same hum which becomes louder when you´re closer to the amp.
The are not 0% noiseless, can´t be (they have an amp inside), so in what ratio you would describe the hum volume to the signal volume in comparison??
And is it a 60cycle hum or a hiss???

Mick

If I'm not mistaken, the EMGs should not hum if you get closer to a monitor.

EMG Pickups

My Luke gives out no hum whatsoever. It has to be silent. Check out what's wrong. Good Luck

I've had EMG'S in my silo for about a year now ....very happy with the set up. Glad to hear you got you problem sorted. They shouldn,t pick up any additional interference from lights, pc's ect, that's why David Gilmour originally started using them (pink floyd were renowned for having a few lights!)I have mine here in my hands whilst at my pc and plugging it into a pod with some gain I pointed it towards my pc monitor and I literally had to touch it before they picked up any interference.Great for recording..I sure your going to be very happy with them in your silo you'll need an extra circuit though to get the neck/middle combination to really twang.

Hey Bud,
Yes, I'm loving the EMG's in it. I liked the original pickups but I really love the EMG's. Just a personal preference for the styles that I play, I find them more useful.

I'm curious what you mean by the statement above, could you ellaborate a little?

cheers
Dave

WOOHOO!!!!!!

Replacement pickup did the trick. Was definitely a dodgy one.
No noise, and it sounds awesome. I also got myself a new volume pedal (25k instead of the 250k that I had) and I think that's also made a huge difference.

We'll call this my SiloLuke Special... I LOVE IT !

I might have to do this mod if I find another used Silo Spec. I too am interested in Luke tones with Silo Spec feel.

Hi,When using the neck and middle pickups together for that 'out of phase' sound you'll notice the sound a little dull compared to the same position with passive pickups.... probally the way EMG's work I don't know but I belive that EMG do a switch or pot which produces the passive style out of phase sound.Maybe someone more in the know can elaborateon this.Saying that my EMG's are not the luke model's just the standard SA/SA 85 set so it may not be the same anyway.
