Thinking about cheating on my bass

Now that I left my fender p for the SR5HH and have not touched the P in a few months I am thinking about another MM product.

I am keeping the P around just in-case but it is not getting played.

I absolutely love the feel and sound of my SR5HH and can't imagine playing anything else. However, I am starting to get the feeling that I need another one because one sometimes just is not enough and I need a backup. The fender P just does not qualify as a backup so looking for an opinion from the MM masses.......................................

Should I stick with the SR5HH and just get another one OR should I get another 5 string model of something else? For those who have more than one model, what would be the recommendation. The feel has to be very close, if not the same.

A few choices for a maple board -

If you get a 2008 SR5, it will sound slightly different than yours due to the recent change in pickup magnets (and possibly a preamp tweak as well?).

You can get the recently released Sterling 5, it will sound very similar to your SR5 but have a slightly smaller body shape and thinner neck (I think).

The Bongo 5-string doesn't come with a maple board, but once you try one you may decide you don't need one. Bongos are tone monsters!

Is the neck the same width for a Bongo 5 and SR5?

The string spacing is the same between all three 5 string basses, the measurements provided on the website are consistent with each other, so I would venture to say yes.

I would forget about maple and look at a Bongo. A Bongo and SR5 combo would cover you completely tone-wise IMO.

Also, I would keep the P. I have used dozens of different basses over the years but every once in a while I still pull out one of my P basses. My 1974 P is almost as safe (from eBay) as my 30th SR!

Dude, I feel your pain!!

I'm in the same boat, I am new to the SR5 and I am digging it in a huge way! Can't stop playing this bass, the tone and the feel are absolutely addicting! I am looking at the Sterling for the smaller body size, I'm a portly but vertically challenged fella and the SR5 nearly covers up the belly I've worked to hard to develop!

I gotta say, though, that the Bongoloids are making me think hard about one!
