I've never even heard the breed much. I'm getting another Silo, and this time I'm going to try a different pup set in it... Humbucker From Hell and Fred anyone?:D

The Breed is an excellent pickup actually. I used to have it in my previous Silhouette that I recently sold to one of he forumites. I actually had the Bridge and the Neck Breeds in there. Very full sounding and very clear, not muddy and not too over the top. Here is actually a clip of me like 2 years ago with the Breeds in there. You can hear the Bridge Breed when I do the ascending scale runs...keep in mind this is pretty out of sync (I hate that crap).

Thanks, guys, for your input and especially for those demos. I think I'd dig the bridge Breed but was unsure about position 2 split. On the demo it sounds alright, but hard hard to tell through the distortion.

Think I may give it a shot. Would like something fatter than what's in there. What's in there isn't the current Virtual PAF but what was used prior, MM's own custom HB, made by DM. I've never A/B'd it with the newer Virtual PAF, but I have a hunch they're voiced similarly. It's fine for certain things (singy leads etc), but I can't get any fat captain crunch out of it.

Thanks again.

What I'm liking so far is that it sounds fat, but the bass sounds clear, not muddy.

In either case, DiMarzio have a great return policy anyway. If you dont like the sound of it within like 30 days, you can send it back and replace it with another one. I actually got a PAF Pro and Evolution 2 for my 20th Silo...should be pretty interesting.

Can you Breed in Silo users say anything about leaps in gain when switching to it? How does it do in position 2 bridge/mid split?

After milking several more opinions/reviews, both good and bad, I went ahead and ordered a bridge Breed. Will let you know how it works out. My preferred lead tones are pretty fusiony, and I think the even temperament (called gentlemanly on the SDuncan site) should work for me.

Meanwhile, I'm still stricken with what's going on with my SSS/maple > modded TS > Laney > 1x12 RWB speaker. I never sounded this good before. If the Breed doesn't do it for me, I'm converting "blue" to stock SSS.

For the fashion statement (smirk), I should mention that I ordered it in cream. The white appointments have been aging nicely, but the white humbucker still looks like a new tennis shoe, so the cream should look a little more natural and funky.

Just to make this thread exist, here's the patient in question:

I just ordered creme knobs, pup covers and switcher tip to go with the creme HB. Looking forward to this. :)

P.S. You are quite right on the white plastics ageing faster than the HB, this is what I see on my Autumn Redburst too..

Even brand new the covers and knobs are not as white as the humbuckers, which are kind of a kitchen appliance white.

Are you still considering converting one of yours to SSS?

That 2007 sunburst Special that's for sale is a real beaut, and comes with SSS and HSS. Tempting...

Yup - the conversion will be done, but just not now..

That sunburst is really tempting! But I just could not afford any more Balls right at this moment. I am thinking of getting only the SSS assembly from Gundar but I doubt he would sell separately. (He mentioned stock SCs and new Dimarzio HB on the black HSS black PG, so I think the SSS PG would left only a bridge SC, thats my speculation anyway..)

I think this beauty will not lie around for long, great price she is!;)
