MM SR with Mesa Boogie 400+

Anyone have any experience with this type of setup?

I have an opportunity to aquire a Mesa Boogie 400+ in great shape for a good price.

I use an Eden D410xlt 8 ohm cab.

I borrowed a 400+ for one gig and used it with my Stingray and an Ampeg 410HLF cab. That 400+ had some balls, I'll tell you. I didn't get to play with it too much, but I was left with two specific opinions in my head when I was done. First, the EQ on that head is a bit different than what I'm used to on other heads, and that I'd have to really sit down with it for a bit to understand it. And second, I really want a round two with another one of these heads because they sound crazy (in a good way). I think some day I will own one for myself.

There will always be someone wanting a 400+, so if you can pick one up at a good price and you decide you don't like it, you won't have a problem finding a buyer.

It's an amazing combination with the StingRay, but you will want to change your cabinet to something a little smoother else you may find yourself constantly trying to reduce the highs and/or compress your signal. Mesa's cabinets would work well, as would the Vintage series from Bergantino (assuming you can find one).

The guy selling me the Mesa said that I won't need my DBX160A compressor once I go to the Mesa. That sounds right to me but I don't know.

My problem now is that the LMII with the Eden D410xlt is just too clean for my taste since I play mostly classic rock/southern rock and some country.

The Eden cab is so powerful & high quality I just don't want to let it go.

You could always get a SansAmp BDDI or the new VT Bass to give you some fluff/roundness with your current equipment.

I've bought and sold many other heads, but they could never satisfy that sound. Picked up a 2nd one last year.

My friend owns an Eden 410XLT, and the Mesa sounds great through it too.

Correct, you will not need a compressor with the tube head.

Tubes have natural compression built in, that is true. My experience with Eden cabs is that you might want even more as they are very "modern" sounding, which means accurate into the high frequencies and fast. I'm not saying it will suck through your Eden, but get ready to seek a new cab as the Mesa just oozes its own tone.

I use a Mesa Tremoverb for my guitars, and absolutely love it - I have often thought about picking up a Bass 400+. Let me know if you want to sell your LMII

I will wait to see what tone I get with the Eden cab before I make any decisions. I will be selling the brand new LMII and DBX160A since I won't need the compression with the Mesa.

I can't wait until I get it.

OK, now that I have the Mesa Boogie 400+ I am starting from scratch trying to dial in a good rock tone. I play mostly classic rock.

Any settings that you folks are using for me to start with?

What are your most used, favorite settings and what type of sound/music do you have/play?
