Luke 2 Query / Older guitars...

Two queries:

1. Did the earlier Luke 2 model with the vintage trem ever come with a recessed neckplate? Much as I love my Luke 2 LE2005 Buttercream I prefer the recessed plate such as on my Luke 1 and ASS MM90+P... To the point I'm considering a swap or hunting for one! That and an ASS with maple neck and HBs + Piezo...

2. Anyone have any photos of the Silhouette that was made in the 1980's for I think the NAMM 84' show with the eagle graphics? Seems a lot of the axes on here are current and fairly recent models - which I love to see but I often wonder about the instruments crafted on the journey to the present day...

Yes, the Luke 2 did have the recessed neckplate.

Hooray! Just snagged a Luke 2 in Luke blue with a recessed neck plate in mint condition! Also rather luckily snagged an Axis hard tail from Smelly a couple of weeks ago!

Now to see if I can sell my Luke 2005 LE to fund my next 'recessed' axe!

How much of a difference is there with a EBMM with a recessed neckplate? It seems pretty
negligible to me.

To me it's just a detail thing that I really find unique. Compare the heel to a S***t and there's none of that awkward bulk. Upper register access seems more fluid - my big hands lead to palms cupping the heel when I venture up the dusty frets, so I guess it's a comfort aspect too.

I don't have an issue with the later non recessed plates as the heel shaping still makes a huge difference to other manufacturers generic square cut bolt on joints - I just merely feel a more welcoming contour from the earlier models. Only my 2005 LE Luke is non recessed so you can see it didn't stop me from buying one!

I do agree on the recessed neck plate thing. My main guitar (Axis) has it as does the Pinkburst AL that I used to own that went to Kompressaur 1, and the Purple Silo Special that went Wolfbone07, DrBob, Kompressaur1, DrBob, Kompressuar 1 (Don't ask) Bungo, also has it.

To me it's like the soft eject thing that you get with Mercedes cup holders.
The ones in my Ford work just fine, but they boing open, whereas the ones in a 500SL Glide. It's a detail touch.

Mind you having said that I've ended up with a paint chip at the edge of the recess, which I think wouldn't have happened on a non recessed model so maybe that's the reason for phasing it out.

Wondered who'd notice that!

I am actually running out of storage space too. I only have a small house and having a handful of hard cases it's starting to fill my rooms up! I still need to get a hard case for my Yamaha BB2005 bass, so it's gonna be a bigger case than the standard 6 stringers I own already!

Oh well, I'll sacrifice my personal breathing space for instrument protection / storage in between plank spankings...

I'm in the same boat.

I've resolved it by keeping all my guitars on one of those multi stands and sticking all the cases up in the loft.

Solves the problem and gives this "Backstage guitar tech area" feel to our spare bedroom which I'm sure my in laws really appreciate when they come to stay.

Although I wish they'd stop sticking their shoes on top of my Rivera amp in the wardrobe

I'm kinda lucky / unlucky really - lucky I have no one to nag me about the space taken up by my gear, but by the same token, unlucky in that theres no current woman to nag me about lack of shoe space - or is that a lucky thing?

Because on the one hand both my Purple Axis, and my Rivera Clubster amp were presents from my lovely wife.

But equally i did walk into the living room about 16 months ago to find my then 1 yr old first born Jessica, hitting my Axis (which was a wedding present from my wife), with my Omega Seamaster watch ( which was my engagement present from my wife).

Imagine the conflicted emotions at play, you know how it is with fathers, and daughters, particularly first born daughters of difficult and potentially dangerous births. Love doesn't even come close to describing it.
But using one of your most treasured posessions to beat your other most treasured posession.
I was 2 years into giving up smoking at this point and it took a Herculean effort to not rip into a pack of Marlboro's at that moment.

It's lovely, but it's a constant effort.

I'm hoping to be able to get a man cave at some point. Home brew kit, pool table, mountain of EBMM's, bliss, sheer bliss

I believed BP said they stopped manufacturing the recessed neck plates because of "guitar techs" that would over tighten the screws causing finish cracking.

That makes sense, I've often thought that overtightening the screws could potentially crack the wood, as well as the finish. Fortunately my silo special is free of any finish cracking, because I keep it clear of any would be "guitar techs"
