Hey Group!

I got an Axis today, which is my first EBMM guitar! Man, it is killer looking and sounding!:D

I have a few questions:

What strings are strung on an Axis from the factory? What gauge?

Also, I love the feel and speed of the neck and am curious what to know the best way to care for it? Any certain oils or cleaners?

Any other tips from you Axis owners is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I believe they are 9-42's, the Slinkys in the pink packaging.

You can use Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes. They also recommend the birchwood casey gunstock oil and wax treatment occasionally.

My one major tip is to change the strings one at a time. The Floyd on the Axis will come flying off if you take all the strings off at once.

Mine is a recent Axis and the stock strings feel like .009 - .042s. I'm actually considering going up a gauge or maybe picking up some D'Addario EXL125 (.009-.046).

Why not give the Hybrid Slinkys a try? Same gauge as the ones from D'Addario, methinks.

I made a switch a few months back from Super Slinky to the Hybrid on my main recording guitar. Not looking back.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum. It's great to be an Axis owner!

And a BIG THANKS for everyone's suggestions. They're greatly appreciated!

I'm going to restring with EB Super Slinkys (9-42), as suggested.

Oh, and here are some photos:

I love the detail in the top and honey burst color.

That's Oreo, the other shredder in the family. When she was a pup, she must have chewed fifty pairs of my wife's shoes! :D

That's the color I've been searching for!

Very nice guitar... Welcome!

I switched to hybrid 9's as well and haven't looked back. Easy bends and they don't get flabby in dropped tunings.

Ya, that flame top kind of got to me, too! The honey burst was just the icing on the cake... I'm a very happy dude!

Some impressions thus far:

I can't believe how light and easy-to-handle the Axis is. It's really a work of art and engineering. My original '85 Kramer Baretta must weigh three times as much. My Powerhouse Strat is heavier, too.

The Dimarzio humbuckers sound great and there's very clear definition between the pup selections. So far, the neck position is my favorite, which is shocking to me (I've always hated that position). I have a Line6 practice amp and the Axis really sings on all settings. But that's solid state/transistor. Those humbuckers really opened up on my 100w tube amp (Laney AOR). I swear, the sound is so sweet and rich it nearly brought me to tears (I'm not normally a crybaby).

But the most impressive aspect so far is the neck: it's flawless and seems so effortless to play. It almost makes me feel guilty...what the...? I love the shape and size of it, plus its bareness of any finish.

I can truly see why you guys are hooked on EBMM guitars. They're amazing! Anyone want to buy my Strat? :)
