Very few know, but my first bass was destroyed in a car accident with a drunk driver last year. I was in the hospital for a day and received many stitches and staples to close up large wounds and had to wear a back brace for the next month with my fractured vertebrae. I finally received the settlement this past March and immediately ordered and purchased this bass, without ever testing one, without seeing the finish in person. And I have to say that I am extremely pleased and impressed.

However, I originally ordered one with a matching headstock. This arrived today without it (I caught the mistake on the dealer inventory before it got here, let my dealer know, and they contacted EB), but after talking things over with my dealer concerning how much longer it would be to get it if I decided to send it back and after being completely floored with the finish after opening the case, the matching headstock didn't matter to me anymore. I was almost in tears because, for me, this was the final step in recovery from everything that had happened since last year.

This thing is light as a feather. I think it came in at just a little under 9 pounds (I may have to weigh it again). The neck is slim, quick, and just feels like silk. I've begun to fall in love with the single coil and the phantom coil, they just sound glorious and audibly shimmer. This bass just exudes class.

I really want to thank Big Poppa, Dargin, and Dudley for finally creating the Sterling 5, which I have been waiting for for a while, and a finish that is simply gorgeous and and be described in words. I love this bass and can't wait to order number two!

And, because I know full and well that it doesn't exist without pictures, I have put them up on my website. I'm working on getting them uploaded elsewhere, but Facebook is hating me at the moment. Hope you guys enjoy!

Very cool, congrats!

I just ordered my 2nd Sterling 5. It's a LE 08. I received my first one early last week. I've already used it in the studio and gigged with it. It's truly the perfect bass.

PS - Hope your back on your feet and well healed.

heh. Class of '91. Haven't been back in quite a while. I miss the area at times but I know it has changed quite a lot.

Is that Deep Creek Maryland? if so, I was there last year staying at a friends place who lives in Alexandria...Beautiful!!!

Unfortunately no. This Deep Creek is a section of Chesapeake in Virginia. Home of the Intercoastal Waterway.

There's a stupid story that gets told to kids in this area that when George Washington was originally surveying the land for the waterway he fell into the water and said something to the effect of 'This is a deep creek.' The Great Dismal Swamp that is nearby is gorgeous in a swampy way. I love taking my Scout troop camping out there.

I might have to take a visit to Maryland sometime. Haven't been up there in a good while.

That sucks.

Anyway, after almost a week of playing with the new toy, I can truly say that I absolutely LOVE this bass! The neck is extremely comfortable, the HS pickups give me so many options, and the EQ is extremely responsive to the slightest change, giving me an even larger tonal palette. I've been using the neck pickup and it's combinations a lot and just love the sounds that I can manage. I lowered the action on the instrument drastically on Saturday and just love the playability.

Haven't used it live yet, and probably won't get to until next Thursday (trip to Buffalo this weekend means I won't get to play out).
